Death Valley, California records first verified 130 degree temperature in the world

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/weath...y-heat-record/

Here were the previous records at Death Valley. The three over 130 degrees -- 130, 131 and 134 in 1913, are thought to be unreliable.

No other place on earth has ever recorded a temperature of 130 or above.

The closet city of any real size to Death Valley is Las Vegas, which is 140 miles away. It has some very interesting geographic formations, and is best visited from October through March, though occasionally it can be okay there in April or May during some cooler weather. It's the lowest point in the US, being almost 300 feet below sea level in some places.

No temperature of 130 degrees has been recorded anywhere since those three in 1913.

It’s fucking hot in California! 95 at my cabin yesterday. And that’s at 6000’. I’m 2 hours from Death Valley, maybe I’ll take a road trip today, not!

    That's hot.

I have a problem with heat.

I've experienced 43 degrees in Alberta a couple years back and

    you couldn’t do anything

I'm only happy when it rains

I've never been there but heard lots of stories on podcasts of it being >130 in Iraq. Looks like those stories are not true: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/...s-in-iraq.html.

There are a lot of inaccurate thermometers out there -- ones which are exposed to the sun, or ones which are simply crap.

This leads to a lot of people thinking that the temperature in their city is hotter than it's actually been.

For example, Las Vegas has never been over 117 degrees since they started tracking the weather there, but there have been a number of 117 degree days (I've been there for some of them).

The hottest temperature I've experienced was 120 in Laughlin (which I've seen get up to 125 before).

Death Valley's low tourism season is the summer, as you might guess. However, they do get some people from the east coast and foreign countries who don't know about the extreme summer heat. One of my mom's friends from New York almost went there in July a few years ago, until my mom clued her in on the weather there.
