Here were the previous records at Death Valley. The three over 130 degrees -- 130, 131 and 134 in 1913, are thought to be unreliable.



No other place on earth has ever recorded a temperature of 130 or above.

The closet city of any real size to Death Valley is Las Vegas, which is 140 miles away. It has some very interesting geographic formations, and is best visited from October through March, though occasionally it can be okay there in April or May during some cooler weather. It's the lowest point in the US, being almost 300 feet below sea level in some places.

No temperature of 130 degrees has been recorded anywhere since those three in 1913.
