    Powerball $1.9 billion

Laughably the revelation of the numbers has been delayed due to "security issues" in one of the states.

This is the largest jackpot in history.

A group of poker players put $90k (!!) into buying 45,000 tickets. This effort was managed by Shaun Deeb, his wife Ashley, and Josh Arieh.

Interestingly, Bob Gaudio is on the list for $500.

He is 80 years old, and is best known for being a member of The Four Seasons, starting at the age of 17.

He was a good songwriter, having written Four Seasons hits "Sherry", "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Walk Like a Man", "Dawn (Go Away)", "Ronnie", "Rag Doll", "Save It for Me", "Big Man in Town", "Bye Bye Baby", "Girl Come Running", "Beggin'", "Who Loves You", "December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)", and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You".

I had no idea he had any connection to poker players, but then I looked again.

There is a Robert Gaudio who is a poker player, and I'm not sure if there's any relation. So I assume it's that guy, and not the singer.

The odds of winning Powerball are 1-in-292,200,000.

That means your odds with 45,000 tickets are 1 in 6,493.

So that's the odds of this crew hitting Powerball.

The odds of 1 in 6,493 coming through is roughly equivalent to sitting down at a poker table, getting AA on the first hand, and then getting a pocket pair 77 or higher the second hand. Not impossible, but pretty unlikely.

The owner of the billiards place that processed the tickets made $5400 in lottery commissions. Not bad. My friend owns a liquor store in San Francisco and he makes $80,000/year from lottery sales.

The Lotto Store on the CA/NV border on the way to Vegas is a gold mine when the jackpot gets this high.

When you think about it, the odds of winning are much better than you stated. It's a 50/50 proposition - either you win it, or you don't.

I think it is most likely one state had a major glitch and weren’t able to get final submission to the central system on time. This has probably happened before and they went ahead, but due to the circumstances I think they decided they couldn’t pick winning numbers without all the numbers submitted.

Many years ago there was a hack of a pick 6 on Breeders Cup day. The OTBs didn’t have to submit their finalized tickets until after the 4th race in the sequence. Of course the idiots were dumb and greedy, basically picking all 4 winners cold in the first four races and then going all all in race 5 and 6. They may of gotten away with it if they weren’t so greedy and/or possibly underfunded.

Very very unlikely anything could happen like this here. But you just never know. I’m sure someone has thought of making a program to past post the numbers/change the time stamp. Again, ridiculously unlikely in today’s day and age. Would have to pick a place with the cameras not working and probably very low foot traffic, etc where the supposed winning ticket would come from.

The way to do it if you had this past posting capability and could alter timestamps. Would have the “winner” go into the business to buy the ticket at an allotted time. Then the ticket would be swapped after the fact. Don’t think it could ever hold up to scrutiny but you never know what people will try when you got this kind of money involved.

Likely by now the centralized safeguards are sufficient to not allow anything like this to happen. But I think they were just not comfortable going ahead without all numbers submitted. 99.9% it was a failure in whatever state’s system due to the overwhelming volume.

Sold in Altadena, CA, which is in the LA area.

Doubtful it was Deeb and pals. They'd have likely bought it near Primm, NV right on the border.

I used to collect money at work when the lotto gets big, everyone chips in 10 bucks or whatever.

I told a lady we should each donate 10 cents and buy one ticket.

Her retort, “you’re never going to win like that”

    What a dingbat.

Wouldn't really define this as a "fail" considering that we knew going in that are chances of binking were still extremely small. This would be like saying it's a "fail" if you don't win the WSOP, which is roughly what our odds were once we bought it down. When the pool was at 99.5k, Shaun was considering who he wanted to sell the last $500 to....Micon shows up in the thread and says he wants it. I message Shaun "Dont sell to that guy, he will somehow convince the lottery to send the winnings in crypto and we'll get screwed somehow and there will be pictures of all of our asses on the internet" LOL
Also, most of the people got in for $500, so of course, as it it always seems to end up, DO YOU WANT THE FIFTY DOLLA BACK ?!

Did Micon end up buying any? I saw his tweet about it, but didn't know he was interested in buying.

I know that Deeb hated Micon at one point, but this was like 10-12 years ago, so maybe he's gotten over it. I'm not even sure what Deeb had against him.

Deeb and his wife had 10% of the prize pool while anyone who put in $500 only had 0.55% of the prize pool. No thanks. Imagine winning the Powerball and only ending up with a couple million after taxes. I'd rather not win...as dumb as that sounds.

No. In the interest of avoiding any defamation lawsuit, I will just say that your impression of how Shaun sees Micon is likely accurate.

Druff, you should try to organize a PFA pool the next time the lotto grows over 1B. Deeb and his wife made 5k in admin fees for just this one drawing, which I think would be a dream for a Jew Man like yourself. Also, I think your reputation for holding money is impeccable. I mean ZERO worries

Um... Is it true that they charged an 'Admin Fee' to purchase all these tickets? Now they are bitching about having to make $50 transfers?
