    Gardening Question

    My dad has had this thing growing all season and doesn’t know what it is (he didn’t plant it)

    I thought it looked kind of like a been plant, and he did grow those in his garden last year

    Anyone know what this big fucker is?

    I'm fairly sure, like you already mentioned, this is velvetleaf; but I'm not a plant expert

    Id say your best bet if you want some quick and accurate answers is to post it over at r/whatisthisplant. There are lots of knowledgable plant nerds over there who are usually eager to help. I've done this before myself with great results.

    Oh, and to add, if it really is velvetleaf, I'd get rid of that shit. From what I've been reading, It sounds like it is a pretty invasive weed.

    Like alot of invasive weeds, just make sure its permanently killed the correct way so it hopefully doesn't have to be dealt with again in the future.





    Case in point: I've recently been trying to deal with wild violet all over my yard. About 4-5 years ago, my asshole neighbor (yes, the same asshole I've mentioned in the past but thankfully he moved now) had it but didnt do much about it. Since then, it has moved onto my property and let me tell you, it is a REAL bitch to deal with.

    In any areas where it grows, sooner or later you can kiss your grass goodbye until you get rid of it permanently, because it just chokes any surrounding vegetation out.

    The aggravating part is that most regular "weed and feed" type herbicides really dont do the job. It might look like it's working for a while, but then the shit will come right back weeks or months later.

    The culprit in my case is that even if you get rid of 99% of the plant with the alleged weed killer that you might think is working, as long as the rhizome underground is still intact and alive, the wild violet will 100% come back.

    So anyway, I just wanted to mention all of this from my life lessons in case there is a specific way to get rid of your weed so you dont have continuous problems.
