TSA whistleblower blames the agency for helping to spread COVID-19 because staff lacked adequate PPE - months after he attacked security measures at US airports
Jay Brainard, the top TSA official in Kansas, says the agency didn't train staff for the pandemic or ensure screeners had adequate protection
In the complaint filed this month he said screeners had become 'Typhoid Marys' because supervisors were told to withhold N95 respirators
The special counsel ordered the Homeland Security Department to conduct an investigation into the allegations Thursday
The TSA said it followed all CDC guidelines for protecting workers
706 TSA employees have tested positive for COVID-19 and five have died
This is the latest in a string of complaints brought by Brainard against the TSA
In December he claimed airport security measures were being weakened and in 2017 that employees were not being properly tested for colorblindness
He also testified in a congressional committee where he branded the agency's leadership top officials 'some of the biggest bullies in government'
