Talking big scores... what's your biggest loss?

Back in the early 2000's I ran up a big roll on Absolute Poker. The night before the big loss I ran it up to over 100K

Next day I lose the whole fucking lot to a guy called "uneductated".... still remember his big googly eyes avatar.

With hindsight I suspect I was superused. I was shattered and slept for nearly two days.

    Be honest my fellow degens.

In relative terms, was this when bitcoin was $5?

I wish I could have a due over on 2011/2012. I really made a slew of bad decisions in that time frame.

I never have lost that much online. I donked off a few $10k size tournament scores playing cash games, but never had a day like that. I’ve had a hundred in the pits or sports betting.

I’ve told my worst degen story before. Not in terms of $s, but just pathetic.

I landed with my ex wife in Vegas like 6PM. By the time we got checked in it was like maybe 9PM and we had been up and running since like 6AM. She went to bed and I said I’d be up in like a half hour. I had brought, iirc, $30-40k with me. This was back in the 90s pre-9/11 when you could show up last minute and they didn’t check anything.

I dusted off all of it in like 2 hours, and then dusted off all my cash advance ability. I literally had no $ on me at all and facing the prospect of going to bed and having to tell her in the morning that we were going to have to do a bank wire from our bank considering it was day 1 of a week long stay.

She always wanted to stay at the Flamingo back then because she loved the pool. I wandered out and went to the western union at Bourbon Street Casino next door. Woke my uncle up at like 2 AM, he shipped me $5k to hold me over until I had a chance to get something done with the bank.

I walked back in, went straight back to the table, and caught a stone cold heater and got all the way back to basically even. Slid in the hotel room at like 6AM. My wife rolled over and asked me how I did and I told her I’m sorry I played so long, I couldn’t get ahead, just hung around even all night. I did shit like that from 15-30 years old all the time, mostly without the getting unstuck part.

In a non poker sense, I've dropped $50k on a weekend betting sports many times... some really big wins too.
This was back in the mid 90's. I took so much money from centrebet one weekend they needed a week to pay me.

Those days are long gone, I'll often bet less then a hundred on a sporting event for interest, a thousand or two if I like my pick and I'm already winning.

Had some really good years, had some bad years... I like to think I'm winning in total over all the years, but I'm probably a slight loser sports.
Last ten or fifteen years a moderate winner. My strategy is never deposit a lot of money initially, when I'm winning press my bets higher. If I'm on a losing streak bet smaller.

nothing too terrible here, but the timing was pretty shit...

had just started playing a lot of 5-10/10-20 PLO8/NLO8 on FT in the beginning of 2011 cause I had a good end to 2010 and the games were good...

wish I still had all my old databases, but lost something like $7,000 a few days before black Friday hit...including the biggest pot of my life at 10/20 which was like $7,000...had two pair and a decent low against 2nd set and nut low...that one stung like a sum bitch cause I hadn't really gotten that scab that you get from losing pots that big...

who woulda thunk that a few days later I woulda lost a 5 figure pot that would take like 3 years to get a refund on...now that was a fucking sweat...but god bless that motherfucker Isai...yeah stars fucked us over a little bit post-BF, but if it wasn't for him i'd probably have PTSD from losing that kinda money...

Not a superuser. Was this at NL? He played the limit games, too. He was an NWP poster, as well. I think he was on there as "31".

Yeah the googly eyes avatar was weird. I don't know where he got that pic. Did you ever play against my ALECTRO account? I was also DRUNK DRIVER and DROOLMAN there, on other skins.

Anyway, on December 26, 2005 I shot off 90k at 300-600 limit holdem on Interpoker.

Was still my best year in poker despite that, and second best (behind 04) if you remove that summer's WSOP scores.

Also once lost 80k at 600-1200 at Commerce. That was in early 07. Just sat down and immediately started losing. We were playing with a combo of $500 and $100 chips, and a rack of $500s is 50k, so it vanishes faster than it appears.

I was 300k down for 07 (mind you, this was still the poker boom, just ran AWFUL) by mid-March. I quit high stakes at that point (even though I was nowhere near busto, and had the roll to continue), and went down to mid-stakes online. Played mostly 40-80 online at AP, and got the entire 300k back by August.

Remember only two players from AP, we were playing heads up limit... other being Mark Seif.

Of course I was owning him for about $20k to start, which makes it even more of a disaster... running bad and jumping up limits is s bad mix.
I'm not a terrible poker player either, without doubt a long-term winner.

Still a bit suspect, he was pals with Mark.

Whats your biggest loss, Druff? I suspect it's not a huge amount... you strike me as they type who can walk away.

Look at my next post to see biggest loss. Sadly it was a large amount. Not quite 100 though.

I still think you just ran really bad. I played a ton of hands against UNEDUCATED at limit. Nothing suspicious. He was a good player for sure, but I didn't see anything fishy, and I didn't do badly against him.

He and I sometimes talked on NWP in PM. Didn't seem like he was friends with anyone at AP. He also played on Interpoker and won there.

Mark was spectating the entire session.

I make big hands he didn't pay me off, and he made sick calls... yeah I'm probably a little bitter too.

Some of the hands were just super suspect. He raises, I raise, he raises. Flop a straight with my suited connectors or gappers, I don't get another bet from him.

Mark was chatting so I know he was there the whole time.

I dunno, but it was sus.
    ----
Edit, all and all it doesn't really sting as much as it could, I started at like $1-2 and it was $500 or $1,000 starting stake.

Yeah I can't say anything for sure. There was that one session where I believe Mark cheated (wasn't against me). We even went back and forth on Raw Vegas TV about it, and he threatened to sue me. LOL

Uneducated didn't cheat as far as I could tell, and I played a ton against him. However, I never played him HU (we stayed away from each other regarding HU), and I admit I didn't know him well, so maybe he was friends with Seif and I didn't know it. It's not like he'd brag about that to me.

I was at Lollapalooza in 2018 and met up with this super fucking cute and chill 17yr old twink who I met off Grindr. He wanted us to hangout a bit so I was like cool, and like 15-20 minutes later he was like where you wanna hookup and I was like there's an empty porta potty there and he wasn't into that and I was like do you have any other ideas and he drew a blank.

We parted ways and I never met up with him again.

Until this 5 week relationship I had pre covid this was my biggest loss in regards to fucking since I don't lose money in casinos like you degens.

I lost $25,000 twice in my life. First was at Planet Hollywood. I was up $3,000 the first night, second night I was actually up $7,000 and just spiraled out of control. I literally was spammed by the casino for like a year trying to get me back there, some host actually called me comping me hotel rooms and dinner. I had to finally tell him in no uncertain terms to take me off their list.

The worst, and absolute worst was $25,000 I lost on a cruise. The cruise 8 months before I actually won $14,000 I was on a fucking heater. I almost got kicked off the cruise from an argument with the cage, it was heated. I won the $14,000 on night #2 and wanted to cash out my chips and put the money in my safe. They refused! They said they could cash me out on the last day, but the most I could get was $2,000 this early in the cruise. Anyway, I was with a group and paid for everyone's drinks for the balance of the cruise and still walked out with $11,000 in cash, great feeling at the airport. It was also a great feeling paying $3,000 at the desk in hundreds and walking off the boat with no credit card bill.

However, the next cruise, a New Years Cruise I got stuck $25,000 by day number 2. It effectively ruined the entire cruise. I went on probably 10 cruises since then, always stayed away from the casino, unless it was one of those low level poker machines for a $100 or so. It's not worth ruining you vacation.

Another terrible loss was $5,000 in Biloxi, driving through and saw a billboard, a grand opening after Katrina. Was up $1,000 and went to high limit room and it was over. But, here is a great ending, when I got home from my trip a couple days later, my Uncle who recently died willed me $25,000. So I acted like it was only $20,000 and justified my losses that way. hehehe.

Geez, I’m not even remotely in your guy’s league. Other than tournaments, I’ve never lost or won more than $5000 in a session.

Guess I’m a faggot. I’ve never lost more than 5K in a day.

I am amazed with how some people who I know aren’t bankrolled for it will rebuy into a game or reload at a table for five figures plus. Shut it down - always a game next week.

There is a upside to having a good line of credit. Easy to have a good line when the people you working with know you are only getting in so deep in a given week and they Know they going to get paid. When you have a rep as a sharp player you absolutely need to have a rock solid reputation. You need to have the house know that if you lose you are guaranteed to pay otherwise there is zero chance they will take action. They will give credit to anyone when they know they going to lose in the long run - it’s a feee roll. When it’s 50/50 at best for the house you can’t have them second guess.

I guestimate I am probably down a half million in losses. $500 here, $500 there over two decades adds up. I've done myself no favors in this pandemic with online horse racing even though I was up early on. But the cruise was the worst. Being stuck $25K with 5 days to go is fucking awful. I did get laid by a random skank so there is that, definitely wore a condom, she had a tramp stamp on her lower back and she allowed a random to fuck her so you know she had been penetrated many, many of times. Her name was Carmella. She was about 5.5 and a buck forty. Definitely did not look good in a bathing suit.
