Doug Polk attempting to recall Carolyn Goodman, Las Vegas mayor

Polk has to collect 6681 signatures, which is 25% of the votes Goodman received in the last election. He has 90 days to do so, which might be tough during COVID-19 times. If he gets them, they will be analyzing the signatures to make sure they're legit. Once this is verified, a special election will be called.

At the moment, he only has 3 signatures, which is the minimum to start the official recall signature collection process.

It is not clear if Doug himself wants to run to replace her. He has an uphill battle given that the median age of voters for LV mayor last time was 72.

Leo Wolpert, who assisted Polk in some way here, is a PFA listener. I met him once at the WSOP during a chaotic Day 2 restart where several people's tables and chips were literally missing (mine and his included).

    Am I missing something?

Only 38K people voted in a city of 1M+?

Is this normal or is this have something to do with the City of Las Vegas/Clark County thing?

Population of Vegas is 640k. Still seems low tho.

Poor Doug had to beg to find 3 people who voted in the election.

local election turnout is always way lower when its not on a presidential year, or some other big race like a senator or something. Plus, she was expected to win in a blowout anyway, which also doesn't help turn out voters.

Interestingly, it wasn't a blowout, though.

She won 20k to 15k. Not close by any means, but not a blowout.

The biggest hurdle Doug faces is getting 6681 signatures in 90 days. With nobody leaving their house, and with nobody likely to want to answer the door to talk to him or people working for him, how is he going to manage this?

BTW, she has no say over the Vegas strip. That's the unincorporated town of "Paradise", which has no mayor, and is not Las Vegas, even though it's referred to as Las Vegas, and even though letters addressed there say Las Vegas.

I’m glad Doug has found something like this to put his time & name recognition to work. I have a bit of a feeling that he may have his eye on possibly replacing her as he will be the face of the movement. It is Vegas though & we know her husband was a long time mob lawyer. I just hope he doesn’t wake up with a horse head in his bed.

not ppl I would mess with over something like the mayor wanting the city to function at more than a 1% rate

You might want to see the twitter thread I sent to Doug it pretty much sums up the facts of the situation and why he’s wasting his time. Short version I told him he’s wasting his time becuase pretty sure since Goldman is basically a Democrat and they’ve been more cautious and tight assed about reopening stuff that my guess for her to say what she did was due to a fire being lit under her ass by the Casino employees union who likely told her she needed to push to reopen stuff otherwise they might very soon do what Doug is doing and likely would succeed They are akin to the old Tammany Hall political machine in NYC back in the 19th into the 20th century. (See Gangs of NY for a further explanation).

If Doug thinks he can beat the Casino Union in his recall endevour I wish him good luck. He has zero chance likely to get the sigs and even if he does the election will be a slam dunk. She crushed the last election she ran winning 85% of the vote I believe it was.

Then for Doug it's already a success, and anything beyond this will just be a bonus.

I’m sure Thomas has been firing suggestions at Doug all week only to be met time and again with, ”I’m not making a single fucking move until I get some input from FTP Jesus. I need his take on the organized labor situation and the Democrats involvement. He will sum up the facts and we can then make a decision on how to proceed.”

They make it very difficult to find information on the union in Las Vegas and what they might possibly want. Thankfully I ran across an obscure 8th-tier poker forum after hours of digging and found this thread.

    https://pokerfraudalert.com/forum/sh...inos-reopening

When you read something like that, with all the unions demands for safety and hurdles they’re insisting be cleared for opening, some might ask themselves, “is it possible maybe they really don’t want to open up right now and are enjoying the time off from being constantly exposed to a deadly virus while making similar money from unemployment and the government assistance and watching Netflix?”

Not you. You see through that and can clearly see that it’s all a ploy to force her hand to open up quickly and that they truly desire to be a control group for all of us. Who wouldn’t want that?

That’s union 101. First page of the manual clearly states that the unions mission is to forget safety and to forget that they work in a Petri dish environment, but to remember that the corporations who own those casinos are led by sensitive men and they need to do their part to open as quickly as possible despite having months left of government money getting sent to them every week.

I expect Doug to now scrap this entire endeavor given your opinion that it’s futile.

Clearly it won’t fail because it’s extraordinarily difficult to collect the right nearly 7k elderly voter signatures during a pandemic. Trying to locate the right voters in a sea of nearly 700k eligible voters is the easy part. The hard part is trying to combat the Machiavellian maneuvers of the union pressuring this poor woman to rush this entire process despite all evidence that they’re doing the exact polar opposite of that.

When the union came out immediately after the interview and slammed her comments and said she’s outrageous and dangerous, that would fool a lot of people and make them think the union wasn’t exactly thrilled with her. That ruse isn’t fooling puppymonkeybaby though. He sees right through that.

Much like many people speak about Trump, I’ve heard quite a few people say that no one understands the internal fabric of the Democratic Party and it’s relationship with organized labor quite like puppymonkeybaby does. Many people are saying that. (See I am Sam for a further explanation)

Now Doug knows what he’s up against. I’m glad you straightened this all out.
