Since my company hasn't had that bad of an April, I kinda convinced my VP to expense a bottle of liquor for this Fridays Zoom Happy Hour(my idea as well).

Front Runners are Basil Hayden's or Kilchoman Machir Bay.

Only rule is that is has to be at least $50. So no Jack Daniels, or Absolute Vodka, you simple people. Bourbon or Scotch preferably.

Also no gin.

At an exclusive alcohol event that I attend yearly, I tasted their 25 yr and 30 yr Laphroaig and I wasnt impressed. Was so harsh and overpowering it was like rubbing alcohol.

Hibiki is such an alternative. Smooth, palatable and delicious even women can enjoy it.

Then avoid Laphroaig, it hits for some and others hate it.

C$ introduced me to Balvenie as I was just starting out; many of their offerings are under $ and agreeable to many.

Ive had all editions, multiple times. Once youve drank half a bottle of 20 yr, nothing comes close to comparing.The 10 and 12 yr I dont like really and wouldnt pay 80 bucks for it even they sold it at that price

Eagle Rare is the best value out there. In the east its about $30. I don't think you can get a much better 10 year old Buffalo Trace product.

Don't get Basil Hayden. That shit is rot gut, swill, man.

If you can come across one of the obvious 'hard to find' options (Weller 12, Weller Full Proof, Weller Antique 107, Blanton's, Elmer T Lee, Rock Hill Farms, etc.) then it's a no brainer. You go with one of those. Not because they're so fantastic, but mainly because you get brownie points for finding an allocated bourbon. Except Blanton's, that shit really is good. But it's also the same mash bill as Ancient Age, which you can grab a handle of, off any bottom shelf in the country, for < $20, but I digress.

I don't know where you live, but you might be able to come across a bottle of something like EHT Colonel Taylor Single Barrel. Anything in the EHT line is fucking fantastic imo. Even the Small Batch. It's retail is $39, but most places won't sell it at retail so you'll hit your $50 number pretty easy if you look around.

If you want something that's for sure going to be readily available on most shelves, I really like the Woodford Double Oaked.

Ultimately it all depends on your taste, but that's my 2 fuckin' cents.
