    Scotch - Oban
    Rye -- Willett 4 yr

    JMM covered the bourbon's well.

If I was going to start drinking again, this would be where I start.

JMM: Willett 4 year. Very solid choice and well in his price range.

Only rule is that is has to be at least $50. So no Jack Daniels, or Absolute Vodka, you simple people. Bourbon or Scotch preferably.

    Also no gin.

Then avoid Laphroaig, it hits for some and others hate it.

C$ introduced me to Balvenie as I was just starting out; many of their offerings are under $ and agreeable to many.

I grab this when I’m in the mood. Not always available. Excellent for the $47 or whatever. I think that’s what I paid last time.

If you know a liquor store owner who will sell you the bottle at suggested retail (good luck with that) you can get this for about $80 otherwise it’s $500+

Ive had all editions, multiple times. Once youve drank half a bottle of 20 yr, nothing comes close to comparing. The 10 and 12 yr I dont like really and wouldnt pay 80 bucks for it even they sold it at that price

Eagle Rare is the best value out there. In the east its about $30. I don't think you can get a much better 10 year old Buffalo Trace product.

Blantons and Eagle Rare are much better than the 10.

If you can come across one of the obvious 'hard to find' options (Weller 12, Weller Full Proof, Weller Antique 107, Blanton's, Elmer T Lee, Rock Hill Farms, etc.) then it's a no brainer. You go with one of those. Not because they're so fantastic, but mainly because you get brownie points for finding an allocated bourbon. Except Blanton's, that shit really is good. But it's also the same mash bill as Ancient Age, which you can grab a handle of, off any bottom shelf in the country, for < $20, but I digress.

I don't know where you live, but you might be able to come across a bottle of something like EHT Colonel Taylor Single Barrel. Anything in the EHT line is fucking fantastic imo. Even the Small Batch. It's retail is $39, but most places won't sell it at retail so you'll hit your $50 number pretty easy if you look around.

If you want something that's for sure going to be readily available on most shelves, I really like the Woodford Double Oaked.

Ultimately it all depends on your taste, but that's my 2 fuckin' cents.

Came in at $73 with tax.

The Kilchoman was 90+tax and the RedBreast 15 was 105+tax so I think this is the safe choice without being a dick. Thanks for your picks.

    Amazing collection though

Eh, I had the advantage of growing up in Kentucky. Which is really the only advantage to growing up in Kentucky.

@JMM...got into bourbon during the kentucky bourbon tour for a buddy's bachelor party...was like 8ish years ago and im old and forget which ones we hit up...do remember we did makers mark because my buddy got to hand dip his own bottle of makers, which i thought was pretty cool...

@OSA...great pic man...never actually seen any pappy in the wild...$2500...shitton for a bottle of liquor, but man id be fucking tempted to do a "one time" if i ever saw it...

JMM: All of the tours are fantastic imo. Makers is probably the most popular.
