Rules regarding spam

While some spam (like the Cialis ads) is obvious, other spam is cleverly disguised as useful information.

Even other times, spam is "accidentally" posted, where the user is just enthusiastic about a site or product and doesn't realize it's actually spam.

Here are my feelings about spam:

1) If you register an account here just to post advertisements for (or rave about) other sites, it is probably spam. I will give more leeway if you are a regular or semi-regular poster here, and just want to mention another site (even if it's competing).

2) Your post has to be something the community would find interesting or informative. If it's just a blatant advertisement, it is spam.

3) If you're posting about a competing site (basically any forum about poker), you are welcome to do so, but there has to be a reason for it. For example, if a competing radio show has an interesting guest on at the moment, you are welcome to post about it. If you are registering an account just to promote how "great" another show is, then that's not okay.


If there is any confusion as to whether or not a post would be considered spam, please PM me and I will clarify it for you. If I have already given you permission to post something, you don't have to ask again.

Druff is the boss here, so obviously he gets to make the rules, but I just want to say that I disagree with his approach. If someone wants to post about a particularly funny lolworthy episode of DD Radio, they should be able to do so whether it is "at the moment" or not. Sure, use some discretion and if someone just posts nothing but "free ads" for another site, then ban them or limit them appropriately. And I don't even listen to DD Radio anymore, but I for one disagree with the heavy-handed deletion of "stuff you don't like" here in Flying Stupidity.

I went back and re-read point #1. I still read them as 3 separate points... am I still misreading them? Are you saying that points 2 and 3 don't apply to people who didn't "just register accounts here to post advertisements for (or rave about) other sites."? Besides, "just want to mention" another site? So that's what regular and semi-regular posters are allowed?

I think it's fairly obvious Druff would like no mention of the fail site at all(understandably) but having someone registar an account just to sing the praises of said site is too much.

i think it's better not to tell people you're going to do something, but to just do it.

initially this looks like a way to combat spambots registering on the forum and posting blatant spam.....but druff took it a step further...making it subjective on what he thinks spam is, and what advertising is...so this isn't about fight spambots, it's about keeping the posters in line.

NP. My thread can be viewed as stupid but no way spam. I want to point out I tend to like Druffs show but lately the Drexel crap and Templar crap is boring. Think how great a Druff interview with Jen, Daniel, Boston or Wise would be. Why isn't PFA getting these people?
