Mr. H, the only truly “Religious” National Holiday we officially have is Christmas Day. Some practicing Christians will not eat meat on Friday’s during lent, but a larger number will just do it for Good Friday. It’s still probably less than 1/3 of practicing Christians. Good Friday/Easter has been much less celebrated in the last few decades then back in the 80’s - early 90’s.


Part of it is our society has become more secular. Also many Christians really don’t go to Church regularly. They may go for Christmas Eve and to lesser extent Easter. The attendance of regular Sunday mass has dropped off drastically in the 2000’s. So if you want a day off for Good Friday, you will have to burn a personal/vacation day. So a pretty big contrast across the pond. Then you have countries like Costa Rica, whose National religion is Catholicism, and the workers basically get the entirety of Easter week off.
