No point is discussing polls right now unless it's in the context of betting markets and where there's value.
Trump being reelected will have to do primarily with:
1) The coronavirus, and where we stand with it on election day
2) The public's reaction to the riots, and each political party's position on them
3) The economy, and whether it's a disaster or rapidly improving in October
That's it. Too much yet to come. Very hard to predict at this point, especially with two candidates who have the tendency to say dumb things.
Anyone who thinks these riots won't help Trump in the long run is foolish. The anti-white rhetoric, lawlessness, and violence is alienating even center-left, Obama voting independents that I know. This is a more extreme version of the push that Trump ultimately got from the protests to his rallies in 2016. I'm not saying he will necessarily gain votes, but it's yet another situation that is turning away the center that decides elections from Biden.
Today Trump said it was a great day for George Floyd because unemployment dropped.
The Washington Post on Friday issued a correction on a story claiming President Donald Trump called employment data a “great day” for George Floyd, the Minneapolis man who died in May while under police custody.
“A previous version of this story incorrectly said that the president called the jobs report a ‘great day’ for George Floyd, the black man killed by white police in Minneapolis. In fact, the president was referring to growing calls for equal justice under the law,” the Post wrote.
The correction was appended to a story about Trump’s remarks at a White House press conference earlier in the day.
Fair enough. The words did come out of his mouth in an order that means he thinks it's a great day for the guy who got murdered last week because of the growing calls for equal justice.
But those growing calls are from the millions of people protesting.
Do you really think that's what he meant? Imagine how disappointed Druff would be if that's what he meant.
Or do you think he just defaulted to his 'i've done more for black people than any other president, look at unemployment numbers' mantra since the purpose of his speech was to celebrate the better than expected unemployment rate.
