I don't see how you can compare him to Nixon. Nixon committed a clear and provable offense, which was likely to result in removal from office. Trump has nothing like that following him. There's a cacophony of accusations, but nothing that will stick in the public's mind over time, aside from those who obsessively hate him.
Notice that Republicans won the White House back within 6 years of Nixon resigning. I bet there were tons of people in 1974 who were saying this will decimate Republicans for decades. I was only 2 then, so I can't comment on that, but I'd be surprised if that wasn't the rhetoric at the time.
Trump isn't resigning. Truthfully, the only thing he has to worry about from a historical standpoint is that he will be falsely blamed for COVID's devastation, and 50 years from now, there's not going to be anyone around who remembers it well enough to counter that.
The messaging regarding Trump is very confusing and contradictory.
I've tried to work out in my mind what the truth is. Is he really in bad shape and headed for death, or are these just moderate symptoms which are being played up by the media, based upon some ambiguous comments by his doctors?
It's hard to tell. He did tweet about 4 hours ago, but a Facebook friend of mine who died of COVID (who was in denial of his condition) made a post just 5 days before he died, talking about how it wasn't nearly as bad as the flu. And this guy was 50.
I would bet anything that the last tweets are from some aide.
The one yesterday about "Going well, I think" looks like it was from an aide, which is probably the first time I've ever suspected a Trump tweet wasn't hammered out by him on his phone.

I'd say he yesterday he was feeling the symptoms, not in danger but he was deteriorating. Today he has improved. But it's still way too early to say what course the disease ultimately will take.

big dick is a curious case because he's someone you'd expect to be a Republican. Even though he's been a poker pro for some years now, he was a blue collar worker before this. He's not one of those guys who was brainwashed with liberal rhetoric at college, which is how so many white collar workers end up being Democrats. I came into college already knowing I was a Republican, so I wasn't susceptible to this. Plus, I have always rejected brainwashing and groupthink in general.
Most blue collar white guys have come to realize how much the Democratic Party hates them, and have switched over to the GOP. I realize that perhaps big dick was fed a lot of rhetoric from the union about how Democrats are better (since Democrats have pandered to unions for decades, in order to secure those large voting blocs), but you'd think that would have worn off by now.
