Hey Dick, I strongly believe you are wrong re: skateboard---it is indeed a deadly weapon and capable of bludgeoning someone to death--a lot like a club,
re: what's to stop, your senario is different, it lacks the assault element....the case at hand there was a deadly weapon (skateboard) and an assault & battery with it as well, so the decision to use deadly force is reasonable imo.
Where Rittenhouser has a problem is if he did anything to provoke the assaults--provoking the assault removes self-defense as an exculpatory...so its up to a trial to find the facts and a jury to decide
you are right that the authorities don't think people should use firearms to defend themselves unless in the gravest of circumstances--thus they will bring as much legal pressure as possible down on Rittenhouse to serve as an example to the rest of us---i've heard a rule of thumb that for each shot fired in self defense you can expect to pay $10000 in legal fees for yourself--so even though Rittenhouser has a good chance of being exonerated he will have a shit ton of legal troubles and fees.
