In fact it appears the Democrats have even war gamed a scenario in which Trump wins a narrow electoral college win, Biden wins the popular vote, the Democrats refuse to concede, the West Coast threatens secession and Civil War 2 is officially on.

I have a suspicion Biden is waiting to be told who his VP is. Someone will explain who it is to him over oatmeal and prune juice.

Now that Biden is looking comfortable I think the VP choice became less about vote getting on Nov 3rd 2020 and more about the future. The focus has changed. Thus the delay.

It feels very wrong to deny the voting public of a principal way to find out where these candidates stand on the issues. And considering the Democrats are making Biden hide in his basement and denying any real press access it just seems shady as fuck.
