Ok to believe, ok to have a religion, NOT ok to force others to believe and NOT ok to base law/policy on religion.
So tl;dr: fuck the evangelicals, fuck the fundamentalist Muslims and fuck the ultra-orthodox Jews. And the rise of Hindu fundamentalism in India too.

on a more personal level i know perfectly well that this is a godless universe and the we all answer to the void eventually but i choose to believe in god because im very sentimental.

Looking at things from an evolutionary perspective, I think religion (and belief in deities) has a very important place historically in facilitating cultures surviving and thriving, and "religiosity" has most certainly been selected for.
Also, it is quite possible there is some sort of grand architect behind it all, although I personally doubt it.
I am even perfectly fine with someone practicing religion as a social bonding exercise, even if they don't personally really believe it true. All that being said, for any single person to actually believe that of all the thousands of religions that have existed, they just happened to be born into the one that "got it right" is the epitome of hubris.

generally agnostic myself...and agree with Walter above on feelings towards those with faith.
I'm more inclined to believe variations of the "living in a simulation" theory than I am with any traditional God/Creator stories.

Not necessarily so. Because to believe in something supernatural is to risk abandoning looking for and taking a more efficacious life-sustaining-and-nourishing action for those based on superstition and religious dogma.
A perfect example of this is the misguided belief in Biblical-style “free will”, the basis for faith-based “moral judgment”, has worked for decades against the US adopting more effective approaches to dealing with mental illness,...
... with drug addiction one such type of condition that induces mental illness.
