    Do you believe in God?

Curious on your why or why not? Interested to see who has thought through this beyond the most basic of responses.

Doesn’t have to be the Judeo-Christian God either.

After some responses I will obviously share my point of view.

Ok to believe, ok to have a religion, NOT ok to force others to believe and NOT ok to base law/policy on religion.

So tl;dr: fuck the evangelicals, fuck the fundamentalist Muslims and fuck the ultra-orthodox Jews. And the rise of Hindu fundamentalism in India too.

    Anybody I neglected to offend?

    Do not care about religion.

A God does not inherently equal religion, even though that’s very hard to separate in modern times.

you can believe in god and be a nut low trash human being. you can believe in god, but it doesn’t somehow give you immunity to be a prick day to day when interacting with others.

I choose to follow the religion I was born into, for the reasons given by Abramelin the Mage, but I’m probably more a Panantheist by inclination, so kind of.

Looking at things from an evolutionary perspective, I think religion (and belief in deities) has a very important place historically in facilitating cultures surviving and thriving, and "religiosity" has most certainly been selected for.

Also, it is quite possible there is some sort of grand architect behind it all, although I personally doubt it.

I am even perfectly fine with someone practicing religion as a social bonding exercise, even if they don't personally really believe it true. All that being said, for any single person to actually believe that of all the thousands of religions that have existed, they just happened to be born into the one that "got it right" is the epitome of hubris.

generally agnostic myself...and agree with Walter above on feelings towards those with faith.

I'm more inclined to believe variations of the "living in a simulation" theory than I am with any traditional God/Creator stories.

Trying to get honest discourse here is playing wrong on this topic. This poll is meant to be one where you an click on the yes answers or no answers and mock the person in future posts given their faith/lack of. That’s the spirit of this site.

To have faith and belief can gain you everything, to be wrong will lose you nothing.

yeah, half the religions say that only theirs is the path to salvation so i don't see how split comes to this conclusion.

Not necessarily so. Because to believe in something supernatural is to risk abandoning looking for and taking a more efficacious life-sustaining-and-nourishing action for those based on superstition and religious dogma.

A perfect example of this is the misguided belief in Biblical-style “free will”, the basis for faith-based “moral judgment”, has worked for decades against the US adopting more effective approaches to dealing with mental illness,...

... with drug addiction one such type of condition that induces mental illness.

Religion is a well polished coping mechanism.
