In hindsight, I made a mistake with the $25k figure. I wanted the fictional Connectedata company to look like a shady operation which was (legally) extorting existing websites for a large sum of money to access their data.
However, I guess I didn't get that across well, so it just looked like the service was so overpriced that it had to be fake.
Anyway, at least it fooled a lot of people temporarily, and some I actually had to tell it was fake when they didn't catch it for awhile. So it was a mostly successful gag.
Hard to fool people around here. I don't think I'll ever top the FBI one from last year, which really got a lot of people, even without any distraction from the date like we have this year.
Honestly I would've bet on Druff claiming to have the coronavirus as an April Fools prank
