Better back everything up today. I could picture this shit just vanishing without warning.

If it does, know that I will move PFA to another hosting company and be back shortly.
Can you not plan a pre-emptive move? Garunteed no/very little downtime
I'd prefer not to deal with the bullshit of moving everything again. If I can just stay where I am, I'd prefer that.

They are swearing that service won't be interrupted and they will continue forward. I'll accept that for now but be ready to move just in case that changes.

Maybe do a complete site overhaul? I’m guessing you will have a lot of free time for the time being.

So, was this thread just a ruse to set up the April fools joke or what?

    BUMP

As we informed you in March, our parent company INAP initiated a Chapter 11 process in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to strengthen its capital structure. While this did not have any impact on your services or relationship with us, we thought it was important to share that information, to the extent you might have seen the news and had any questions about what it might mean for you. I am pleased to share with you today that INAP has successfully emerged from Chapter 11 protection. INAP is now a private company with substantially less debt, extended maturities and enhanced liquidity, with a blue-chip ownership group including The Carlyle Group, Angelo Gordon and BlackRock.

There will be no changes in your services or relationship with us as a result of this announcement regarding our parent company. Our customers are at the centre of everything we do and, with this important milestone behind us, we are stronger than ever and energized to support you by delivering the highest quality services in the industry. Thanks again for your continued support and we look forward to serving as your trusted provider of critical IT infrastructure needs in the future.
Guess PFA isn't going DD after all.

Good news that you'll continue to be able to run it at a loss.

How much are your hosting costs every month or is that privileged info?

Moving hosts is a giant PIA - you never know if the place you are moving to is gonna be in business any longer than the deadbeat gypsy host you just fled from.

    I've never made that public.

Let's just say it's not a trivial amount but not large, either.

You're correct that moving hosts is a big pain in the ass -- and more than just reliability and financial stability issues. Even switching VPS within this same host caused issues in January 2019, because of different versions of PHP and other pre-installed software. For example, I just realized days ago that the Amazon banner wasn't always displaying correctly since January 2019 because of that move (which I since fixed).

That move was actually necessary because of the trend on PFA for people to gravitate to monster threads like the Trump thread and the wagering thread. Those huge threads shouldn't take up a lot of processing power, but they do, because of the way vBulletin handles them. Laughably, vBulletin simply suggests not to allow huge threads to develop, and to break them up. Dumb.

Upgrading the server and tweaking some my.cnf settings solved the problem, so that's why you no longer get long waits when you load those big threads here.
