    Marie Osmond latest misguided celebrity who won't leave her fortune to her children



    Marie Osmond feels that it will do a "disservice" to them because it demotivates them from having their own career and make their own money.

    While this does occur sometimes, you can put some safeguards to prevent it. You can teach your kids how to value money, and in fact how to manage the fortune themselves so they can make even more.

    You can also establish trusts which doesn't release all of the money at once, or not until a certain age. You can even put terms into the trust which will not allow the kids to collect the inheritance if they borrow against the trust at any point.

    I feel that, if you have normal kids who are at least semi-responsible, you are doing them a big disservice NOT to leave them all or most of your money, as you might introduce struggles they'll have in life which otherwise wouldn't occur.

    For example, say your kid develops a mental or physical disability later in life, after you're dead, and can't work anymore. Imagine them subsisting on a small disability payment while your vast fortune went entirely to charity.

    Or say your kid falls victim to a financial pitfall out of their control, such as the 2008 housing market crash, which knocked a lot of people underwater and out of their homes.

    You don't want spoiled kids who don't appreciate money or what it took to earn it, but you also don't want them enduring hardships which could have been prevented if you had left them enough money to do better.

    Additionally, wouldn't you prefer your children live (and their kids go to school) in a better area, rather than what they can afford with whatever job they can wrangle?

    Wouldn't it be better if much of their earned money wasn't going toward interest for car and house payments?

    I agree with the fat black chick in the video. I don't know who she is, but she makes sense.

    I have thought about this myself because I have a child and he's almost 40 years younger than me. I hope I am around a long time into his adulthood, but I also might not be. I've started early trying to teach him the value of money, why you should get good deals, how to recognize scams, why not to waste money even if you have a lot of it, etc. He's actually got a good understanding of that for his age, such as remarking once that we shouldn't go to the Caesars gift shop because it's "way too expensive". I do all of this because I want him to treat money the same way I do, once I'm gone and he has my money.

    I would never dream of leaving it to anyone else, aside from Ben's mom.

    It says she has a net worth of $24 million.

    She and her brother Donny performed at the Flamingo hotel in Las Vegas for over a decade. $50 tickets plus a two drink minimum. $150 for a meet and greet.

    Marie owns a million dollar home in a golf community in Henderson, Nevada. Plus homes in Utah and California.

    Marie is on "The Talk" TV show which pays her at least $1 million a year. The weight loss commercials probably pay her $2-$3 million + per year.

    She talks about her life in every vague terms.

    Her kids are fucked up. Daughter is a lesbian. Son committed suicide. Both lived in Los Angeles.

    She has eight fucking kids.

    She should probably leave them some money.

    No way these fucking kids can pay their own way living in Los Angeles without mommy's money.

    Marie Osmond does look good for being 60 years old.

    Hopefully she will reconsider. Her kids are monsters largely because she was too busy amassing a fortune and not raising them properly.

    I mean, money is an accelerant. Regardless of what direction you’re going in life. I’m not giving my money to some puppy shelter or something if I’m a rich guy with fucked up kids, but if they have drug issues or I think it would hurt them, it would go elsewhere or be in some trust where they need to clear a ton of hurdles to get it. But say your kid is an addict. You know your money would kill him. I’d have no issue not giving it to them.

    If you put it into some trust where they need to be clean five years to collect it, you still might send them off the deep end after they’ve been doing great for 5 years. In those type of scenarios, I think I would have some chain of friends who I really trusted to make a call on the timing. Not just some arbitrary date.

    And it wouldn’t be a mother or grandmother. It’s hard for people too close to a situation who love and want them to flourish to make a dispassionate judgement call. I have maybe two people in this world I think are a mix of both street smart enough to not get bullshitted and educated enough to look at the situation purely objectively. The $ would sit there waiting for them to get it together, but I’d do my best to make sure someone didn’t cut a single check until they had it together. And I’d make sure that person was willing to never write a check if they don’t.

    Set a trust fund for them until they hit age 30. Better to give to kids instead of strangers ie charity.

    I have two cousins with trust funds who are useless. It may work for some, but not all.

    I would have posted the same thing if a man came out with this proclamation. In fact, Osmond said that she came to this decision along with her husband, and I believe that.

    And I didn't bring up the lesbian thing. That was XFactor. I understand that you flip out when the word "lesbian" appears in any thread I start, but please at least take a moment to read who posted what.

    You can structure trust funds in whichever way you like, depending upon the responsibility level of the kid. To dump your entire fortune to charity and leave your kids hanging out to dry is pretty fucked up. This would only be justified if you have no relationship with your kids anymore, or if you are convinced the money will be spent on drugs.

    I don't know the Mormon rules on estates but I know they're supposed to tithe 10% of their annual income to the church so maybe she has to give them some too.

    Their show at Flamingo ended in November 2019 after a long run, but I have to imagine they made a shitload of money from the whole thing.

    I never understood their appeal, but whatever.
