“Slow Burn” podcast

I hate making new threads. It’s hard to measure up.

I was watching the NH primary returns and saw an advert for the “Slow Burn” debut on Epix Feb 16th 10ET



I saw that trailer and yelled, “I call. I call. I call”

I’m a big fan of the Watergate tale. “All the President’s Men“ is on a loop. It’s so rare that we see how the sausage is made. It takes an impeachment for the rats to scramble into the sun and tell the tale in some faint hope of contrition.

I stumble on the fact that “Slow Burn” was a podcast series. I think I know quite a bit about Watergate and I am immediately humbled and hugely entertained.

I don’t know if you can enter this cold. I think you need some basic Watergate experience to truly enjoy the nuance and gravity of this new information.

Season 2 tackles the Clinton Impeachment. That could be tasty.

For all the Orangeman nonsense you are reminded that people and shenanigans have not changed. People have always been people. Society is more crass today and any pretext of civility is gone but the depravity has always been the there.

The ancient Romans owned all this and more.

I hope we don’t have to wait 50 years for the Trump inside story.

The Slow Burn podcast seasons have been excellent so far. Listened to them all while doing my trucking thang.

Just started this. Knew first season was about watergate. Knew second season was about Clinton. Kept skipping past the Tupac Shakur/Notorious BIG Slow Burn podcast because I thought that couldn’t be it. Who goes Watergate/Clinton/Tupac? Eventually I just clicked on season 1 and sure enough it was Martha Mitchell and Watergate. Good so far a few episodes in.

Ok. I’m hooked. Need to go to sleep. I thought I had a pretty firm understanding of watergate. I did as far as the players and their roles, but I was like 4 when Nixon finally resigned. I was younger than that during the hearings. Everything I knew I knew from books and school long ago.

I had underrated what a villain Nixon and his people were. Some of my earliest memories were his name synonymous with disgraced president who had to step down, but I kind of figured that was the minors back then.
He actually was a bigger scumbag than I gave him credit for.

Obviously Trump’s reign has drawn a lot of Watergate parallels. What is so similar is the partisanship. Right down to the polling and commentary on both sides. You tend to think of it as such a better time. It was to a degree once underway, but up to, and even during the early stages, it was much like now.

Great refresher and much I never knew. Still have a few more to go. I’m starting episode 7. Idk how many there are in season one.
