Cliffs: As of a few hours ago, some bodies were still there. "Weather" was blamed, which confuses me since today was a nice day in LA.

They have passed an emergency law against going to the crash site, making it a misdemeanor. I'll be staying away for now, but I'll go once that gets lifted.

It was generally unsafe to be flying that morning due to the fog.

Why do you want to go there? That's weird dude.

Because it's big news, it's close to me, and I was a big Lakers/Kobe fan.

Also I always like doing disaster tourism.

You should put some dirt in a jar as a souvenir. Could get some Kobe dna if you get close enough. Pass it down enough generations and the whole family will believe there's definitely Kobe DNA in there.

I’m not sure they’ll ever really know but I think there’s a good chance the pilot had a heart attack. He goes from extremely responsive and in complete control to unresponsive for about 30 seconds and crashes.

He was only 50 though, and not known to be in bad health.

I think he just fucked something up and then panicked when he saw the mess he got himself in, making things worse.

By all accounts he was extremely experienced. They’re saying he was going way too fast especially if he was panicking. Wouldn’t you think if he got into a bad spot he would simply slow the fuck down, maybe even hover? And why would he quit responding to ATC?

Elon needs to build helicopter AI to avoid crashes in the future

Ditto. My dad said they used to spray the shit too. Gets a check every month for the side effects among other things. War ruined him mentally though he’d never acknowledge. Hard to imagine being 19 doing that kind of shit. There again much older and they’d say fuck that.

No photos or videos of actual helicopter crash.

    Only after crashing into mountain.

NTSB investigators use drone to survey crash site.

All pieces of Kobe's helicopter will be gone before Druff gets there.

While message boards are dying, I have been part of them for 20 years. I can say without hesitation I have never seen anyone reveling in "disaster tourism". What the hell is the matter with you?

"Dark tourism" is actually very popular. Plenty of people go to Chernobyl every year. Heck, people even go on ghetto tours of Detroit. It's not as uncommon as you think.

Chernobyl is a like a moment in history frozen in time, not some burnt brush on the side of a mountain.

I just do not see a helicopter crash where parents and teenagers were killed as some type of tourism. This was not some type of nuclear event, it was pilot error in the fog. Why the fuck would anyone be interested as a spectator?

I was gonna give you shit, but I posted about visiting a murderer's grave, so I shall have to pass.

I actually did the Detroit one 6 years ago when visiting Caesars Windsor.

Was interesting. May not have done it in one area if I had known about a murder of a tourist 2 weeks prior to when I was there.

    No. Just no.

It's one thing to visit where Kennedy was assassinated now, it's another trying to visit the turn where he got shot 30 minutes later to try to find any brain matter or souvenirs to take home.

I had assumed that by the time I'd be able to get there, it would all be cleaned up. More interested in just seeing the impact crater and the area burnt around it.
