The truth is that the left didn't want people to use the natural immunity loophole to get out of forced vaccination, as they feared people would lie about previously having COVID, and thus be able to dodge vaccine requirements. So they just pretended natural immunity didn't exist for COVID. Just like they pretend that biological males in women's sports have no natural advantage, because it doesn't fit the current gender ideology narrative.

After many many years pass, and all of the COVID politics die down, we will probably see this narrative in the history books (provided the history books are honest, which is a big IF these days):

- COVID started in a Wuhan lab during gain-of-function research

- Both China and the US attempted to cover this up, for their respective involvement in that lab

- Original and Delta COVID were legitimately deadly viruses for people 45+, though most of the risk was for elderly and already-sick people

- People under 35 were at almost no risk for seriously bad outcomes

- Long COVID was somewhat real, and somewhat anecdotal, especially for people over 40 who often develop chronic problems out of the blue anyway

- Cloth masks were useless, and were not backed by real science

- Lockdowns were useless, especially in countries like the US where people do not like to be told what to do, and even those for the lockdowns often quietly violated them

- Closing schools was a disaster, was a case of teachers unions asserting their bought power over politicians, and harmed poor/minority kids the most

- The initial two shots of the vaccine were very effective in bringing down death numbers for original/Delta COVID, but efficacy against getting symptomatic disease would wear off after 4-5 months

- The vaccines did not prevent transmission

- The vaccines were not useful enough for those under 35 to warrant taking, and especially not for young males

- The boosters helped refresh protection against symptomatic Delta, but after Omicron showed up, they became useless

- Omicron was a true blessing which saved many millions of lives, as it changed COVID into being flu-like in its danger profile, and virtually stopped all deaths for people under 65

- Politicians and media figures were very reluctant to admit what a game changer Omicron was, fearing it would "prove correct" the then-incorrect sentiments from the right that COVID was never a big deal at any point

- Pfizer and Moderna fucked up with their bivalent booster, releasing it just as BA.5 was on its way out, and not providing protection against Omicron BA.2, which ended up the grandfather of the most dominant variant of late 2022, early 2023, and beyond

- Everyone should have returned to 100% normal life, thrown away their masks, and stopped getting shots, once Omicron took over in early 2021

- Many companies and politicians exploited COVID to push through changes they had wanted to make for a long time

- Pfizer and Moderna lied about a lot of shit in order to maximize profits

- The vaccine was nowhere near as safe as first claimed, but was nowhere near as dangerous as many on the right portrayed

- Ultimately, Ron Desantis' policies in Florida were the closest to optimal of all states in the US regarding COVID
