In the early stages of the pandemic there was a shortage of N95's and people were making their own and buying low quality masks.
It was fair to question the effectiveness of those masks but now that we have n95's widely available just know they work very well and it's absurd to even question it.
It's right up there with believing the earth is flat, probably worse since lives are on the line.

If that crackpot in the above Forum Wars video is correct, and somehow Omicron is a weird COVID/cold hybrid which transmits like a combination of both, then yes it will be incredibly hard to avoid.

That's a big "IF" though.

There has been a common misconception that COVID is "more transmissible" than the common cold. But that's not really true, because the common cold has far more methods of transmission, so it's a lot harder to avoid. You can pretty much avoid COVID by avoiding public indoor spaces for any real length of time. There is no avoiding the common cold because it can transmit in so many ways -- through the air, on surfaces, in food or drink, etc.

So if you were to combine the transmission feature of COVID (highly transmissible in the air indoors) and the varied transmissions of the common cold (surfaces, food/drink, air, bodily fluids), you could have a virus which can pretty much get you everywhere in every way.

But if it's also downgraded itself to something a lot milder than the COVID we know, then it could burn itself out the way the Spanish Flu did in 1920 -- at about the exact same point in the virus timeframe.

In South Africa, they did state that the symptoms are different with Omicron. More Stuffiness, runny nose, blocked nasal passages/throat and scratchiness in throat. This is totally unlike the regular Covid except for the cough. Also affecting younger people more. (young and old people get colds at pretty much the same rate).

Possible Omicron "gets you" in the upper respiratory tract because of its ability to bind there first, unlike earlier variants which get you in the lower respiratory tract and cause a ton more problems.
