Did I ever claim that zero children are dying from COVID? While it's a tragedy that this girl (and about 350 other kids) died of COVID since it started, it's an even greater tragedy that more kids die of the flu in a typical season, yet we never hear about that.
Notice that the article didn't claim she was perfectly healthy prior to catching COVID. My guess is that she had preexisting conditions, as is the case with almost all of the kids who died of COVID. Is it sad? Of course. Does it warrant nationwide panic and harmful school mask mandates? No.
Does it mean that we have a huge crisis on our hands regarding the health of our kids? No. The overall health/death toll of COVID on kids is far less than the anxiety/depression/socialization/education toll that has been heaped upon them over the past 18 months.
I'm not saying that the Twitter nurses aren't actually seeing some kids die. They are. And it is probably very upsetting to them. However, many of these reports seem highly colored by politics, and when you scroll back, indeed you find a history (both recent and not-so-recent) of left wing activism, thus calling the details of these "reports" in question.
Would you believe an election fraud claim from a MAGA fanatic, or a "vaccine is dangerous" report from a known anti-vaxxer? Obviously not. Then why should we believe these politically-charged on-the-ground crisis reports from doctors and nurses with a history of left wing Twitter activism?

CDC just lowered india's rating to level 2... someone sanity check me on this but i feel like india's been a strong indicator for incumbent domestic trends. so we could see delta taper off in the next 60-90 days and if we get lucky, no major variants will step in to carry the torch.

Seemed a good indicator on Delta wave. On first go around, we were all wondering how a place with no sanitation and over a billion people wasn’t ravaged.
India has cold places, but I’m pretty sure 95% of its population lives in very warm climates. So it’s an indicator of general trends, but I assume we’ll flip flop again come fall and we’ll be getting nailed while the south improves slightly. I’m thinking our population is much more spread among highly populated warm and cold climates, but if I’m wrong, feel free to disabuse me of notion. There seems to certainly be a seasonal element to this thing, plus school firing up and creating petri dishes full of sniffling kids in colder areas bringing it home.
Interesting you guys just posted about this. My wife was in a meeting with the CEO late last week and he said they think this surge may have peaked which is very consistent with projection modeling they had done using previous delta outbreaks.
