...the first study was practical because dialysis patients are monitored often and few other things related to amount of data/anonymity. The issue is that people in dialysis are 5x likelier to be infected and they never standardized that in the first study because it wasn't know at the time. That doesn't mean the hospitalizations are 5x 1.7% though.
The upper bound was a CDC estimate of 4.5%. No idea what the real figure was then. Winter came and you racked up almost 2x many deaths in the next 8ish month period.

Very likely way more than that. The excess death data are way worse than thought compared to previous years and suggest double the reported numbers pretty much everywhere globally. Everywhere had an incentive to hide numbers. Every leader whether local, state, national wants to act like they handled it better than their neighbors.
