I remember going to a casino with some older people and when they went to a slot machine, they couldn't be bothered to spin at low-denominations. They felt bored and needed meaningful action/swings, and they were not regular gamblers and they were not rich.
It looks to me that many older people are willing to participate in a lot of things some younger people might consider risky. For example, investments that (objectively) are very risky, many of them think are perfectly normal. Maybe it is just the older people I know, but aside from this observation, they seemed very ordinary.
The other issue is that many older people have outdated forms of research or do no research at all. They will get their information from cruise line magazines and cruise line promotional materials. And of course, old habits die hard.
This is all presuming that cruises will pose greater health dangers in the future, which is not necessarily true. Entry prechecks combined with better isolation procedures and emergency docking locations might make the additional risk low/negligible.
I am hoping to find a good entry point for cruise stocks, still. Missed the initial lows, brokerage money transfer delays.
There is a certain logic in rolling the dice the older you get. There is a math problem there about life expectations v chance of dying. That said, a fall cruise has such a high chance of turning into a plague cruise of disaster and confinement that I can’t imagine bothering. Feels 50% you’ll end up stuck getting swabbed every day and confined to your cabin.
I talked to them this morning for something unrelated, and they decided they probably had the coronavirus already on their other cruise. LOL. The cruise was end of Nov, beginning of Dec., so it is more or less impossible, even if half the passengers were straight out of Wuhan. I told them just to get antibody tests at the earliest convenience, to know for sure, and just social distance until then.
ill tell you something and maybe its nothing and maybe its not.
i feel like i had this shit in early october.
dont bother telling me it wasnt it, we arent having a discussion about it.
im putting this here because it may be an interesting thing to pivot back to if the current timeline falls apart.

Ok. Obviously you know where I stand. But we shall see.
If one really wanted to test the timeline they probably should start screening cruise passengers from ships that had recently docked in China from Nov-Dec, including autopsying ones that died in Dec. The cruise population is old enough there should be a decent sample size of this.

honestly nothing is making me doubt the wuhan lab source theory more than watching team retard try to strongarm the DNI into saying it cant be discounted.

I’m ready to open up Florida. I’m happy to hear we are getting the process started.
Speaking only about Florida by the numbers you have ~ 2x the chance of dying of Da Rona then a fatal car crash. Now when you put it like that it still sounds like it’s a high chance until you really stop and think about it. When is the last time you got up in the morning and stopped at the front door and thought “maybe I shouldn’t leave, maybe today is the day I get in a fatal car crash”.
Nobody does.
let’s mask up, leave the movie theaters closed and get on with the first steps of whatever the new normal is gong to be and figure this shit out.
California has an even smaller chance of dying than Florida - it’s roughly the same odds as a fatal car crash.
To be clear - NY, NJ, Ma, Mi, Il, La...... yeah it’s not time yet.
im all for opening up florida for very, very different reasons.

All I can tell you for sure is my wife works for the largest hospital in palm beach and they have had 20 patient admissions which has resulted in 1 staff member being inflected. 15 have gone home 5 are there and are expected to make it and one person died. The have tested well over 500 people and ~200 have been confirmed.
It’s around. It’s “real”. It needs to be respected.
We don’t need to continue to shut down the entire state.
