    RIP GORDMAN

A Wisconsin resident has been sickened with a new virus that originated in China and spread across the world, the first case in Wisconsin and the 12th in the country, health officials said Wednesday.

The patient is an adult isolated at their home but state health officials would not say where they are located, their age or any other details. More details about the person's location will be coming later from the local health department, said Dr. Ryan Westergaard, chief medical officer in the Department of Health Services Bureau of Communicable Disease.

The person was never hospitalized but was evaluated and tested at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Westergaard said.

The person who tested positive came in contact with a confirmed case while traveling to mainland China within the past two weeks, he said.

"The risk to Wisconsin residents in general is extremely low," he said.

The outbreak of the new type of coronavirus has infected more than 24,500 globally, with all but a couple hundred of those in China. There have been 490 deaths in China but none in the U.S. Other cases of the new pneumonia-like virus include six in California, one in Massachusetts, one in Washington state, one in Arizona and two in Chicago.
    RISK: SO LOW

The current prediction models show the infection rate doubling every 6 days, and that it will eventually turn endemic; we will never quite eradicate it.

Also the evidence is mounting that its man made.

On Superbowl Sunday I encountered a PFA listener (not a forum poster) who had just been to mainland China. Needless to say, I kept my distance. He did have a mask on.

I tried to stay away from it by avoiding Commerce, and then I encounter it anyway. FML

    It’s on

Macau’s casinos eerily quiet as 15-day closure begins
    https://www.asgam.com/index.php/2020...losure-begins/

    Macau is also spelled Macao.

It has the 2nd highest per Capita on earth.
It is more densely populated than Monaco.
Macao does 5x the revenue of Vegas
Only 12% revenue is entertainment contrasted with Vegas 65% now. It’s all gamble

    Monaco is fascinating.

The real estate is so rare and precious b/c so small. Yet the benefits of residency are enormous. Great deep dive. Recommend

For the man-made angle, China has the motive and the history in drastic population control measures. Out of that side my first random thought was that this is kinda optimal solution for population control. Spreads fast, but only wipes out sub 10% of infected, targeting the least productive from a certain view point.

Regarding the 60+ year old virologist, it's not exact science and/or he would be among the first to find something fishy that would be enough for him to die to natural causes/accident/suicide, if this was an official Chinese experiment.

The other likely suspect would be Russia. They have a way of positioning themselves where they gain from volatility. They are also at a deadlock with China regarding WMDs. Still it's a distant second at face value. Though i'd assume i'm only seeing sub 40% of the full picture. In other words there might be some animosity between China and Russia i'm not aware of that would justify the risk.

For the West as the culprit i would assume they'd go for softer targets like Africa or South-America for their first experiments. They definitely have reasons to dislike China, but for the same reason why US tariffs are a bad idea, so is this. The control of production of the West is now in China's hands. Directly and indirectly regarding most of Asia.

one of the first things that happened when this went wild is that someone pointed out objections that had been raised to the ostensible biowarfare lab opening up near wuhan.

the nature of the objection was that they were going to test on live animals, which people with direct weaponized bacterial/virology experience called categorically insane, because wild animals _constantly_ bite and scratch lab workers, and in an environment as opaque as chinese gov bureaucracy, thats a guaranteed L.

tl;dr the people saying this is a deliberate man made biowar pandemic are at best in the fringes of the conversation. the likelihood that this will either go endemic in its current form or mutate into something endemic is so strong that by itself, that makes it an unlikely candidate for such use.

    however.

Yea how it played out definitely not saying it's a good idea even from a very cold pragmatic view, just because how horribly wrong it could go. It would be nearly always a more likely scenario that it was a botched experiment that was released too early. And even that is unlikely. Still it's China. However dysfunctional your government is, there are stops that hinder the stupidest shit. It's less true about China. And then there's the history of one child policy.

Oh and things that are pointing more towards population control, are that small children are mostly safe. It's way more important to keep sub 40 population safe vs the above. A lot of the modern day leaps in productivity comes from that group and it's fairly common that their survival few hundred years ago was questionable. And generally targeting that group is really iffy gamble.

Targeting olds and dregs of society is practically a free roll. Now the people responsible for making that decision would be in that category, so pulling the trigger would necessitate having an antidote or extra-strength level cult mentality. You know, China.

    It's been a pleasure

On another note, I have a strain of some kind of virus in my system. I've been more or less dealing with this since the third week of September.

    Yup, 21 fucking weeks.

In the beginning it was like a flu which I think I got from my son and my ex. There's had already gone away and mine took about a week until most of it subsided.

Since then, I have been off and on dealing with this mucous in the back of my throat and occasionally shit in my nose as well. The stuff in the back of my throat makes me want to gag at times. The stuff will linger for 2 or 3 days, then I think it's gone. Then in about a day or so, the shit shows back up again. Rinse and repeat. The doc gave me some antibiotics, and it did nothing.

If anyone else has recently dealt with something like this and it sounds familiar, I'd appreciate any insight you might have
