    San Diego County declared a public health emergency Friday as American evacuees from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, have been quarantined at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in the city of San Diego.

    The base received two flights of Wuhan evacuees last week. Two of the travelers have tested positive for the virus and were described as "doing well" and "fair," respectively, by UC San Diego Health CEO Patty Maysent. Five other Wuhan evacuees were described as persons under investigation.

    if it spreads to the US like China, basic necessities will become harder and harder to get as the supply chain gets restrained or shutdown

    people will get desperate, and when the shit hits the fan you want space between you and them

    sometimes that might require lead down range (or at least the threat of)

    even a cheap hi-point carbine is fine, especially if you don't have a lot of experience shooting a handgun, and you can find them for as little as $150 used

    in a real SHTF scenario if I had $2000 to spend on defense, i'd much rather have 8 hi-point carbines and a shit load of ammo than a bad ass AR or two, and a few hundred rounds

    We're not digging a bunker underground here or anything. Don't stereotype and put "packing a couple of bags" in the same category as lets say some of the extremists on that doomsday preppers show planning for some apocalyptic event.

    There is absolutely nothing wrong with packing a few things in bags in case something unforseen happens where you might need them. Everyone should do it. Relatively speaking, It takes little time and expense to do this.

    I can point to several situations where I'm willing to bet there were quite a few people who wished they had something with them, e.g, hurricanes or other natural disasters.

    Every time I drive out of town and I'm going to be gone for a while, I always make sure to have a couple of bags in the trunk of common sense essentials. One occasion when I was heading up north in the winter, It came in quite handy; this wasn't the apocalypse...it was merely something basic that could happen to anyone
