Is it a coincidence that when things get serious, say like during a deadly pandemic that the USA switches from a privatized HC system to a govt funded system even providing universal coverage? No it's clearly the best system.

Also if the govt was still funding vaccine development we would have new vaccines that specifically target these new strains with the potential to end the pandemic.
