It seems especially reprehensible to me that the Chinese Communist Party has started a campaign that claims that the virus may have started in the U.S. or even brought to China by the U.S. military. The sad thing is that many and maybe even most Chinese will believe this to be true. The reason that this is important is not because people outside of China will believe this and would damage the reputation and economy of the United States, they won't, but because that after this crisis is over, the CCP will have the cover it needs not to make the necessary reforms it should make in public health and food safety. Places like the Wuhan wet market/petri dish and the widespread consumption of unregulated wild animals have to be eliminated or SARS and the coronavirus will be followed by something even more vile.
