A person who travelled to Las Vegas for an international conference has tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total number of infections in Ontario to 24.

According to an internal email sent to staff in the University Health Network, the person went to the Emergency Department at Toronto Western Hospital Wednesday with respiratory symptoms.

I think this article puts things in perspective pretty good. On the cruise ship where they tested everyone (not just the people sick enough to go to the doctor) the death rate was 0.85%, and everyone who died was over 70. Also, even this might be skewing things high, because there were probably very few children on board, and it seems the disease is pretty much always mild in children.

One thing to note is that it's surprisingly mild against children.

You just aren't seeing stories of children dying, even young children.

This would support the theory that it only kills those who are immunocompromised or very old. Children are very rarely suffering from any major disease. Or it's possible that children's bodies (which are more different from ours than you might think) simply aren't as susceptible to the virus' effects.

This overall makes me less concerned about the coronavirus than if I saw it killing kids, and had to wonder if Ben was next. That would really keep me up at night.
