    Australia as a whole is still on top of this virus... for now.

    I live on the Gold Coast. Population of 600,000 and we currently have zero active cases.
    The state of Queensland has about 5,000,000 people and we currently have 10 active cases more or less.

    We pretty much have 1 state that's accounting for 95% of our infections.... Victoria.
    During the first wave Victoria was getting about 100 new cases per day which quickly dropped off when we went into the first Australia wide lockdown. But now it's like 600+ new cases each day, so they've got it at least 5x worse at the moment.

    Will be very interesting to see if they quickly get this under control now Victoria is again locked down.
    The Victoria government has totally fucked this up though. Many reports are blaming the hotel quarantine as the source for the new outbreak. Security guards were given no PPE and were not trained.
    The Victorian Government also was super slow to act when it was obvious they were having problems.
    They have done stupid things like giving everyone warnings the border was about to be closed again a couple of weeks ago. Basically they gave 48hrs warning and there was a huge exodus.

    Next couple of weeks will be interesting.

    Listen, our morbidly obese president said you’re getting wrecked, so it has to be true. If you triple your total cases, you run the risk of passing up huge populous states like Utah and Arkansas. I can’t believe you’re even still alive.

    Here in Queensland it's been pretty much business as usual for the last couple of months, restaurants are open, bars and clubs are open, casino is open without Plexiglas sneeze shields. Everything is open, and virtually nobody is wearing a mask. Went to the footy last night to watch the AFL and about the only thing is stadiums are only allowed about 50% capacity.
    I just checked the government site, we have 11 active cases for the entire state of 5,000,000 and 0 in my local area of 600,000

    Western Australia has at this moment 7 active cases.

    Norther Territory has 3 actives cases.

    South Australia has 10 active cases

    Canberra zero point zero

    Tasmania zero point zero

    New South Whales 262 active cases and at the moment appears to be mostly under control but could turn quickly.

    Victoria 6,706 actives cases and rising fast. They've lost control at least two weeks ago and I find it hard to argue that another lock-down in Victoria is a bad idea.

    Time will tell, we might be totally plague ridden from coast to coast in a month... I'm slightly concerned this will happen. But I reckon we'll nip it in the bud... least I hope we do.

    Solid report and I find that bit I bolded above very interesting. Here in the US our local governments and most on the left believe it is a literal crime if you do not wear a mask. They claim the science is settled and masks are essential. What is the feeling on masks in Australia?

    Kinda depends where you're. In some parts of Europe it's a thing. Where i'm there hasn't been a single case in the last 2 weeks so there aren't any masks either. At the height of epidemic (it was mild to begin with) i think i only saw very frail elderly wearing masks and all medical personnel.

    We did it by testing. Reacting to those tests. Contact tracing and closing travel from the parts of the country that were flaring up. I think maybe 2 months of quarantine. And social distancing, plexiglass at counters, hand sanitizer everywhere. That type of stuff.

    Schools are opening in 2 weeks and i think almost everything that was closed opened about month ago. Restaurants, cafes and everything non essential.

    Most of the new cases around the country in the last month are from the Swedish border.

    Oh and we might get mandatory masks in relation to any second wave. With no quarantine except for risk groups. With new cases i think we're at 1 in 100k people per week. So it's not really relevant yet.

    Yeah will be interesting to see if it can be contained in Victoria, another 700+ cases today.

    Can't see the point in using a mask in my local community, we're 600,000 population and have 0 cases. Only 11 in the entire state... maybe 5% of people are wearing a mask right now, maybe less. We're still being told to social distance though. You know stickers telling you to stay this far away from other shoppers and that sort of stuff. Like at the footy the other night, family groups can sit together and there is 4 or 5 empty seats between groups. (virtually no masks)

    New South Wales a few more are wearing them and the government recommends they be worn in risky environments.

    Victoria passed a law nearly 2 weeks ago making it mandatory to wear a mask in public or get a $1,000 fine.

    It's only Victoria really... NSW is mostly OK and I might wear a mask to go shopping if I lived in central Sydney, though probably not. Melbourne on the other hand I'd probably not leave my house and get my groceries delivered next day.
    Every other state in my opinion is completely safe.... FOR NOW
