This song was first offered to the Monkees when they were trying to become more of a serious band. The Monkees were staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Mike Nesmith responded to the offer by punching his fist through the wall next to the head of their manager. Offer rejected.
Just unbelievable as it would have reignited the Monkeys career.
Which reminds me my papa sold the Bee Gees a motorhome in 1972 when their career was in doubt. 3 months later they had to reposess it for non payments. It was thrashed from all the partying they did in it and cost a ton of money to recondition.
Needless to say they made it big in 1977 with that Saturday Night Fever movie. D#mn good music in it.
