a pretty good song, but perfectly recorded. One of the few songs my cover band played that always amazed me when people knew the words, the tune in general, and even the phantom time switch near the end of the solo that only fucked up the bassist (me) usually.
I think i'm gonna limitles this thread tonight.
Dino Jr doing the Flying Burrito Bros. I'm almost positive I was standing next to J Mascis for like 90 minutes one night in Northampton MA, Pearl St, as about 100 of us rocked out to Monster Magnet ('95 or '96). Even if I was sure, I still wasn't gonna ever say anything to him. Not a spotlight guy.
I wasn't at this show, but I saw these guys in this place do this thing a bunch of years before. Gov't Mule are monsters, and Warren Haynes is a prophet. Longest song I'll be posting, more than likely.
I almost got to hang out with Evan Dando and friends on Martha's Vineyard this one time. Unfortunately, I decided to eat an extra 'special brownie' and I was rendered housebound and immovably blissful. Kunt and his wife, however, got the full Dando experience.
Flickerstick is a band that came from VH1's Bands on the Run, and won the first (only?) season. They essentially shit the bed on all challenges, but were the best live band every round. My insanely talented guitarist friend was obsessed with these cats, and I'm glad he was because they were such a great live rock band. The back of my head appears in this vid, we're pretty sure.
My last post was # 5150, which requires this posting, by one of the few major american rock bands I've never seen, in any form.
What I kinda wished Beachwood Sparks sounded like, before I made peace with Beachwood Sparks. I like my droning one way, but I'm open to other ways. Also, they have nothing to do with each other, as far as I know.
Beachwood Sparks, who opened for the Crowes a bunch of times when I saw the Crowes a lot.
Here's the entire show, one of my favorite shows ever, the Black Crowes at Lupo's in Providence. Specific songs are gonna take some work on the reader's end. The most inconsequential night of the year, December 30th. Every fuckin song is great, I was gonna post Pink Floyd's Fearless, which is at 1:10:00. Street Fightin' Man is 36:26. My Morning Song is at 41:02.
Descending is at 20:40.
Tom Morello is GOD, and Mista Wizard is a genuine, generous motherfucker.
The only song I can think of that I ever played bass on without an active count. Just followed the drummer's accents. He knew where it was, and I knew where he was. Our practice room in Brockton used to fill up when we did this one. The song that taught me I could play with real musicians without being their equal.
Here's a fun memory of mine. Day was ridiculous hot, still high 90's at showtime, Wallace Civic Center was a sweatshop, and I was dropped flat on my back crowd-surfing during this very song. Also, drank my first 40 oz before this show, and got to the show in the white van that kunt soon got to know quite well.
Love that youtube has all this shit.
One more time around might do it.
Before this show, i drank 2 bottles of Mad Dog 20/20 in the centrum center garage. was nauseous right up until showtime. Then radiohead delivered. a convincing live show, to say the very least.
in the early twitter days, 2009ish, i got into an Amanda Palmer twitter-invite show at some recording studio in Cambridge. Was also the first time I ever saw Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys, one of the last local bands I still feel a real connection to, and obligation to support.
Anyway, this didn't happen that night, but it's in the spirit of the night. Her theater shows are very different, and totally worthwhile, but informal Amanda is top shelf. I love pretty much anyone who covers Paper Planes. Or people I love just like to cover Paper Planes. Whatever.
