Just found this guy on Youtube: Dr. Reality. What do you think of him?

I have a feeling I'm gonna be watching a lot of his videos now...I like the first one I saw:

I like the fact that he brought up the "frog in a pot analogy" about how we are clearly slowly but surely losing our liberties and "taking it" anyways. Also found the fact that there is 13x more theft from *inside jobs* than shoplifting the reason for checking receipts and just surprising.

Guy lives in Nevada, so I hope he has casino/gambling stories too.

First off, the guy lives in Pahrump, which is mostly a white trash shithole.

That aside, I don't agree with most of his video.

He's stating that they don't have a legal right to demand you show a receipt in non-membership stores. He's technically correct. They don't have the RIGHT to force you to show them. But you also don't have the right to return there. So if you refuse, they can ban you, and there's nothing you can do.

That's an important fact he leaves out. He kind of touched on it when he talked about the follower who tried to refuse to show his receipt in Guitar Center, and then got banned. Laughably, he blamed it on the guy for "sticking around" instead of just leaving the scene. Well, yeah, but the end result was that the guy got banned, and the only difference whether he sticks around or not involves whether they ban him now or ban him the next time he enters the store.

This is one of these situations which is annoying, but fighting it isn't worth the potential hassle/consequence. I get what he's trying to say, but it's just asking for trouble where trouble isn't necessary. The only situation where I would agree it's justified to refuse to show the receipt is if there's an insane line to do so. So, if it's going to take 10 minutes to get out of there, I can understand going to the front, informing them that you can't wait on this line, and that you need to leave now. Otherwise, just show the fucking receipt and deal with it.

Regarding his "frog in the pot" analogy, he's correct, but not in the way he thinks. The real way we are slowly losing our rights involving big businesses is via horrible customer service, billing, and quality control practices. Most people have been slowly been trained to believe that it's the BUSINESS who is always right (not the customer), and that terms of service documents trump consumer law (they don't).

This is why I will fight so hard to avoid being ripped off by a company, even if it's not worth my time monetarily to do so. I don't want to give them a monetary reward for poor or unethical service.

But am I going to create a huge hassle over the concept of my "rights" not to show my receipt? No. Get the fuck out with that shit.

I put this guy in the classification of "being difficult for the sake of being difficuly". I can't support that. I only support being difficult as the means to an end -- usually to being treated fairly or getting an error corrected.

    Watched the video.

This guy is just a different form of SJW, and SJW's are pretty much humourless pricks regardless of which side of the aisle they fall on.

This guy loves the sound of his own voice and is always the smartest guy in the room.

While his reasoning from a legal perspective is correct, I'll let Frank Costanza sum it up.

I agree with druff and tony. I watched it. Looked the dude up. That he’s one of those don’t pay the irs advocates didn’t shock me

For me, his advice is worthless because I’ve usually had a few drinks or have something in my car I don’t want the cops to find. I’d feel all cool telling some minimum wage grandma to go fuck off and find a cop she called because she assumes I shoplifted in my rearview mirror and I end up with a much bigger problem than showing a receipt.

Easy solution is to not shop at Walmart.

Also, I tend to think what works for a 50ish year old, rough looking, fists tattooed, maybe jacked guy in a NOFX shirt with a too-friendly/maybe unhinged smile may not be the best course of action for the average citizen.

But generally, don't shop at places that you feel disrespect you or your rights, if you can avoid it.
