I love trying to turn my 2 dimensional understanding of the period between 1927-1970 into 3 dimensions. It all shaped the post WWII world & policy we experience today. I have come to appreciate that history does repeat itself. People are people. Their foibles never change.

You see and read stuff over the years and keep layering one understanding on top of another and seconds before you’re dead you arrive at a pretty clear picture.

I recommend Oliver Stones Untold History of the United States. Regardless of his politics, you leave the experience feeling a bit different .... and that’s the goal of all art.

FDR’s first VP was progressive Henry A Wallace. His second was villain Truman. Astounding telling of a tale. Fascinating to marry that history with what is occurring now.

Stone’s documentary was 10 parts. I have a very short attention span. I fucking just finished The Wire for chrissakes. Yet I fairly quickly saw all 10 parts.

No. It’s the Emancipation Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln. I’m a huge FDR fan, but right after this speech, he began rounding up American citizens and putting them in concentration camps simply because of their race.
