Cirque founder Guy Laliberte arrested in Tahiti for growing cannabis

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/carterc...hiti-cannabis/

He claims it's for personal use, but that's still illegal in Tahiti.

Laliberte was a college dropout and street performer who turned his stylish circus into an entertainment empire, and eventually sold the company for $1.5 billion.

He was also a known poker whale, getting crushed repeatedly on Full Tilt at the nosebleed stakes. Full Tilt management let him change screen names at will, despite it being against the rules. This was in order to avoid embarrassment for him, but he was always identified fairly quickly due to the dearth of players at those stakes.

He later claimed he was cheated, but most players believe he simply was much worse than his opponents.

Guys like Guy don’t really go to jail. Not here. Not anywhere really.

    That’s not how it works.

I've never seen anything at any Cirque show that would lead me to believe that the guy who thought all this up may be into the use of mind altering drugs.

    Nothing.

Unless your name is Jeffrey Epstein. But to be fair, he wasn’t in jail all that long.

Interesting. I was there 40 years ago and everything seemed so "loosey goosey" when it came to things like sex and substance use. Police presence outside of the cities was virtually non-existent. Maybe they've developed a gang culture and a more serious drug trade. I wonder if this kind of conviction might make him inadmissible for entry into the States.

would anyone be shocked if he was a freak and really weird dude and got himself jammed up behind it?

like the complaint is he was growing weed on his property supposedly.. gotta wonder who dimed him out and why. because everything im reading online backs up your take; you gotta look for trouble there, it wont come looking for you generally.

the border issues, i hadnt considered. good question..

    This smells like a shakedown.

But still, if you are going to be a very rich white westerner doing illegal stuff in 3rd world shithole countries, even if it is something authorities would never bother enforcing for any other reason than a shakedown, things like this are on the table.

Inside the $1.1 Million-Per-Week Island Resort That Cirque du Soleil Built
Cirque du Soleil cofounder Guy Laliberte’s French Polynesian resort, Nukutepipi, is a real fantasy island.

    https://robbreport.com/travel/resort...built-2837989/

Not sure what Guy Laliberte paid for it but he owns the entire island of Nukutepipi in French Polynesia.

You can rent the island for only $1.1 million a week.

the drug trafficking trade in asian countries has gotten insane. They are all paraboid about it, esp the southern most ones like Thailand, Australia. and Philippines.

These little island countries are corrupt af however. He'll pay some magistrate under the table a large sum and he'll be OK
