They were Chinese and it was a refrigerated lorry. They use them at ports to defeat thermal imaging cameras used by immigration authorities. Obviously you have to turn off the refrigeration once they're through otherwise they all die. Their deaths were unintentional and whoever fucked up has now seriously pissed off the Chinese Snakeheads who run these smuggling operations.
