Looks like I finally have a reason to use my 2080ti. Just opened it up and installed new thermal paste on the gpu two week’s ago. Was pretty disappointed in quality control in such a high end card. Took me forever to get the old paste off. Temps been reduced about 10 degrees though since re paste

using 'very high' settings that were recommended for my system, i get around 30-35 flying low and 40-45 fps flying high. i know i could lower details and squeeze out 60 but i'd rather have the eye candy.

    loading screen? 144fps

How does it feel at 30-35? Too jumpy?

I agree that you don't want to lower details. Details are the whole point of this thing.

I kinda feel like this is one of those things which will be super awesome in 2025-2030, but is ahead of common hardware right now.

Reminds me a bit of the Soarin' Over California ride (RIP) at Disney's California Adventure. I enjoyed it when I did it in the mid-2000s, but I went back in the 2010s and it looked way better. Like, the scenery I was "flying" over seemed super clear, and it was awesome. But how? It was the identical footage.

Turned out they were smart enough to record it at really high definition back in 2002, even knowing that no large screen projector existed at the time which had anywhere near that resolution. Sure enough, such a projector was possible in the 2010s, so they improved the ride without having to record new footage.

I'm guessing nobody will be able to run it at 60fps on the highest settings today, even with the best possible system.

Here's a good article about tests on various setups: https://www.thefpsreview.com/2020/08...ormance-at-4k/

Zap_the_Fractions_Giraffe: it doesn't feel or look bad, fps is low but consistent. using a gsync monitor, i would have guessed i was over 60fps until i turned on overlay

I think so, but the nature of this game means you are going to be playing for hours and any laptop is going to get hot af playing this. my old gaming laptop could never reach the hardware's full potential because of thermal throttling

now i have a normal laptop, and using steam streaming I can let my desktop do the legwork and stream it to the laptop and play Doom Eternal or whatever in bed, works great just a little bit of input lag. haven't tried it with fs2020 yet

tweaked graphics settings after watching this jayztwocents video, big performance increase, 60fps in red states and 40fps in big cities. biggest boost was turning off vsync

    BUMP

I am considering breaking down and buying a gaming PC. Benjamin wants to play certain VR games on it with his new headset, so that's a second reason.

    Here are some questions:

    1) If I buy an already-built one, which is the best manufacturer in terms of build quality?

    2) What's the best bang-for-buck graphics card right now which can perform fairly well with Flight Simulator? Right now I've been looking at the GeForce 2080ti and the GeForce 3070.

    3) Is 16GB ok, or do I have to spring for 32GB?

    4) Recommended processor?

Well I went with the following system:

    Intel i7 10700K (8 core, 16M cache, 3.8Ghz-5.1Ghz)
32 GB DDR at 2.933 Ghz speed
    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
1 TB SSD and 1 TB SATA 7200 second drive

Dropped a fair amount of Jew gold on this.

Haven't bought a monitor yet. Any suggestions?

You have to splurge and get yourself an ultra-wide monitor. This is what I got for myself

You knocked it out of the park. That's a great system. Congrats on getting a hold of a RTX 3070, I hear they've been backordered since release and are hard to find.
