At the risk of turning this into a serious thread, do you know if this was a franchised location?

As is the case with many well-known American brands (not just fast food), there is often a huge quality/customer service difference between corporate and franchised locations, even among the same brand.

Corporate McDonald's tend to shoot for customer satisfaction and a return to both this and other McDonald's in the future. Franchised McDonald's are owned by penny pinchers who might even be losing money overall, whose only goal is short term profit.

It's very possible that the owner of this McDonald's has commanded the employees to fill the fries this way, and to only correct it if the customer notices (this is a light form of the negative checkoff scam).

I have noticed that the amount of fries I get in any fast food place seems to have a lot of variance. Sometimes it's overflowing to the point where extra fries are all over the bag, and sometimes it looks like your picture. When it's short, I ask for the extra fries if I feel I'm going to be hungry enough to eat them (or if I'll be sharing with them with Benjamin, which I often do), but I never make any kind of complaint about it. Next time I go to McDonald's, I will look at the fries to see if this is happening more often than I thought. (I don't always bother looking if the fries are full.)

For those bashing Mumbles for going to McDonald's in 2019, I will state that despite McDonald's mostly being shit, even by fast food standards, their fries are still A+. I still like McDonald's fries better than any other fast food fries out there, by a wide margin. Benjamin agrees.

Guess that LPR is all better if you're back to wolfing down McD's.

I’m guessing that it’s a franchise store. It was located inside a Love’s truck stop in rural Alabama far from even a reasonable sized city. I doubt McDonalds Corporate would want to deal with directly managing stores in such locations.

Also, with my considerable experience eating fast food fries, IMO only Whataburger makes better fries than Mickey Ds. But I’ve never had Five Guys’ fries and read that theirs are supposedly even better than Whataburger’s.

I just spent like 15 mins trying to research how to tell if a McDonald's is company owned or franchised. The best answer I could find was call and ask. How has some McNerd on the internet created a website dedicated to this yet?

    Here's a story I've never told from the early 90s regarding McDonald's.

When I was 21 and in my first year of grad school, I had a friend who was 2 years younger than me who still lived in the dorms. I came over and visited him sometimes, and one day we walked by a room of kids all trying to make prank calls on a speakerphone, but they were doing a pathetic job at it. I told everyone to move over and watch me, and I proceeded to make a bunch of prank calls, which were a huge hit with everyone. One of the calls was to the local McDonald's. The manager answered the phone, and I told her that I wanted to confess that I was a compulsive ketchup packet thief. I claimed that I had stolen thousands of ketchup packets, and was storing them in my bathtub, but that my bathtub was filled and I was tired of not being able to take baths. I asked her if McDonald's had some sort of ketchup packet amnesty program, where I could return the thousands of packets without getting in trouble.

The manager thought the call was the funniest thing ever, especially as I kept escalating the ridiculousness of the whole thing. By the end, she told me that she had to go back to work, but to "call back sometime" because she really enjoyed talking to me. After I hung up, all the dorm kids told me they loved the call, said that they thought the manager probably wanted to bang me, and that I should definitely follow up on this.

Back at my apartment I did call her back a few days later, and we talked a number of times during dead hours there (she worked the overnight shift). She assumed I was around 30, which happened to me a lot in those days, as I sounded identical to how I do now. She said she was 28, and sounded a bit disappointed to hear I was only 21. Also, it turned out she was married with 3 kids, which kinda killed my enthusiasm for the whole thing. She told me that she was previously divorced, was from Alaska, and lived there during her first marriage. That marriage ended because her husband was obsessed with threesomes, and kept pressuring her into having one. She kept telling him that she wasn't attracted to girls and that the whole thing was unappealing to her, but he kept pressing, she refused, and it actually killed the marriage. Weird. She told me a lot of about McDonald's U and a lot of other shit about McDonald's which I didn't know, which I actually found interesting.

My friend kept telling me that she obviously still wanted to bang me, if she was talking to me so often, but I told him that her current marriage seemed happy and I didn't want to screw with it. Eventually I met her when I was down there for the night shift anyway, and she was way prettier than I expected, but I didn't try to make anything happen because of the marriage thing. She did give me some free food each time I came, which at least made the Jew wallet feel nice. Eventually I felt weird about the whole thing and stopped calling her and coming down there altogether.

    The end.

Not a fan of Five Guys fries. I know some people rave about them, but I find them to actually be just average.

The fast food fries with the most variance are In N Out. They range from awful (when soggy, overcooked, or in old oil) to great. Never know what I'm going to get with them. Burgers there are great though.

Small fries at Five Guys is too much for 2 people. They load the paper bag with fries. Container couldn’t possible hold it

I am dying to know what a large order of fries is like. Next time we have a party of six I’ll see.

Five Guys fries a good and I’m confident they are clean. Peanut Oil and potatoes

I have been sufficiently frightened off McDonalds fries. Although great tasting

Seeing that movie had a bizarre effect on me: I started eating at McDonalds 4 or 5 times a week for several months, and this is when I regularly exercised and weighed only about 210. Oh, and almost every time I went until McDonalds abandoned their supersize-push sales tactic, I would almost gleefully responded “Yes!” to the request.

Druff would probably like it if I attributed this recent act of standing up to receive a fair amount of fries to his determined and righteous campaign of educating the public on what we deserve as consumers, but my inspiration goes back at least several decades before he came on the scene.

I copy/pasted the op's dilemma and am forwarding it to a higher up employee who I am friends with.

I don't normally talk to him on a daily basis like some of my closer friends, but I'll call him and ask him to give me his thoughts and see if he is willing to share; I know he will definitely want to be anonymous- not because of the question, but because (as you can imagine) he simply doesn't want to say something that could potentially jeopardize his employment. If anyone can give an honest in-depth answer, I'm fairly confident he can. This person works for a company who franchises/manages 75+ McDonalds restaurants.
His employment is actually a nice story, because he literally started out as a standard employee (when I first met him) and has risen through the ranks and now makes in the triple digits with bonuses etc as a type of regional manager who makes sure that a group of restaurants have their shit in order.

I'll post his response when he gives me one

Dan Druff is a fan of in-in-out burger.

The french fries aren't great but their burgers are.

It is also cheaper than McDonald's.
