For me I tip 1% at $100.00 which means I don't tip very often since I play low limit spread games . When I get called out on it I say this " Does the dealer give me a dollar when I lose a big pot"

I get a ton of dirty looks from dealers and players yet I don't care because I am not there to make friends .

Also when I hit that big Pick 4 ticket last year I tipped the teller $200.00 . She didn't even write the original ticket I used a self service terminal .

As far as food service tipping I go on a scale of how was my service . Example Years ago I was on a date in NYC was at a nice place bill was $300. and change . Waiter was a total dick the whole meal . He got ZERO. Chased me outside and tried to verbally put me down in front of my date . I said this is exactly why you got nothing.

Flip side I recently was out with my girl at a local establishment we ate outside on the patio . Drinks where always full , Bread never empty , The girl never bothered us during the meal. Service to me was on point . Bill $42.00 . I handed her a $100.00 and said have a great night .
In poker, you will go broke if you tip a % of the pot. The tip given to dealers should be something fairly constant (provided you win the hand), and you shouldn't be guilty because you won a big pot and still only throw them $1. A big pot at your table is equivalent to stealing the bllinds at a bigger table, where that dealer also deals.

A better way to think about this: Do you take back previous tips after you lose a big pot? Obviously not. So when you win a big pot, you don't owe them a big tip. Poker is a long series of hands including big losses, medium losses, small losses, small wins, medium wins, and big wins. You will have all of these in a long session, typically, especially at limit games.

$1.00 for a pot $100.00 or more in my game means I am tipping maybe $2.00 a session . I tip nothing on pots below this . It is also a split pot game so in general it has to be a scoop . Yet I see guys getting quartered and still tipping $2-$3.00 LOL

    That's kinda true.

Some dealers are way more entitled than restaurant servers, because the expected tip at restaurants is fairly well defined, whereas in gambling circles it isn't.

Speaking of restaurants, it pisses me off when people say, "I always tip, even if the server is a rude asshole to me", as if that makes them some sort of great person.

No, it makes you a chump.

If a server is a rude asshole to you, he deserves both zero point zero tip and a complaint to the manager.

I'm talking about actual full on rudeness or nasty remarks, not just a server who is brusque or unfriendly. I'll tolerate those and still tip normally. But if the server gets nasty or confrontational with me, 100% they get a big zero plus a complaint.

If you still feel guilty about not tipping in that spot, take the money you saved and donate it to your favorite charity, or give it to a friend who is struggling financially. Don't give it to an asshole just because it makes you feel like a good person for doing so.

The fact that you routinely have servers get full on rude, nasty, and confrontational with you says a whole lot about you as a person. I’ve never once in my entire life had a confrontational server.
It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

It doesn't happen often. Probably a total of 5 times in my life at most, and I've been the one paying/managing the bill at restaurants for about 30 years now (starting from when I was a teen going out with friends).

Take a look at the link I posted. No chance you can say with a straight face that I was the asshole in that situation. It was shit like that. I imagine some people don't get into any confrontations because they will back down when the server is being unreasonable about something on the bill, especially if it's small money. I choose to stand my ground. Different strokes for different folks.

I also don't believe you've gotten into no confrontations, since you have admitted to flipping out on some chick at KFC because she wouldn't give your daughter a free cookie.

You’re simply a miserable human. One, you know I don’t even have a daughter. But you’re that juvenile. Two, please show me where I “admitted to flipping out on” a KFC worker? I literally said NOTHING to Val.

    Tipping auto mechanics? Uh, check.

I’m huge on greasing people. Not because I am patently generous but I understand human behavior.

Tipping the sales guy - never freaking occurred to me.

With service rates these days, a tip makes a microscopic difference to your final cost.

When I picked up the car the mechanic must have seen it being moved. He came out to thank me. That was good of him.

Next time I get car done gonna ask for same mechanic. They leave the name on the service slip.

Firm believer in taking care of your contractors and tipping service people. No matter how small.

Was eating at a restaurant the other night when a family walked up to the hostess. One of them said to the hostess, “Can we get 2 tables that are near each other? We don’t want to pay the 6+ auto gratuity.” What a fucking power move, just straight up telling them you’re not going to tip right off the bat. Savage. Oh they were all pretty obese too and looked worse than the Honey Boo Boo family. It could’a been Sonatine & fam now that I think of it.

I didn’t stick around, but I’d be willing to bet they all ordered 3 entrees, a bunch of diet cokes, a few full sized cakes and pies for dessert, hung around and talked for 4 hours, then try to get stuff removed from the bill due to “the food not being good”.

    Hilarious.

BTW some places will remove the auto-gratuity if you get crap service.

I've never done it, but in one case like 15 years ago there was baaaaaaaaaaaad service at FIX at Bellagio for our really large party, and it pained me to collect the 18% from everyone for the auto tip, as the servers seriously deserved zero.

When I spoke to the manager the next day, he said I could have removed it all.

    Live and learn.
