In the air over eastern Canada right now, just met The Shrink and DJ_Chaps yesterday

Will post more about my trip shortly.

Among the oddities of this 12-day trip:

    - I injured myself not once, not twice, but THREE separate times on August 3, the first full day of my trip. Two of them were two nasty and dangerous falls on jagged rocks in Newport, RI. Somehow I ran really well and escaped with only minor injuries. It's the first time in my life where I got three separate, unrealted injuries in one day, separated by hours each.

    - Car broke down in Ellsworth, Maine and it was a bitch getting another one.

    - Tried Delta One -- the first class where you have a lie-flat seat -- on the trip there on August 2

    - I really wanted a good lobster dinner, but every attempt to get one ended in some kind of weird fail, until finally I got one on the second-to-last night of the trip

    - I met two PFAers for the first time -- The Shrink and DJ_Chaps, both of whom live in the Halifax area

Did not have any hotel fail aside from some minor issues. This was probably my first long trip in many years where no hotel fails occurred.

I'm typing this in the air right now, sitting next to Benjamin who is sharing my internet to play on his iPad.

Near the end of my trip, a minor version of my anxiety problem returned. It's not terrible yet, but I'm no longer as good as I was 2 weeks ago. It's not clear what caused this. However, I took a Xanax and I am fine in the plane.

If Xanax didn't have the terrible addiction issues and all of the crap that goes with it, then it would be a miracle drug which could largely cure anxiety and depression.

Anyway, it's great if used responsibly.

One of the more demoralizing things about my issues last year was the belief that I'd never be able to fly again. I would see all of these beautiful destinations on TV or the internet, and think, "I'll never be able to go there."

It really was a freedom opening back up to me to be able to get better and fly again.

Not quite accurate....Depression can be anxiety related but it's not a given....Benzo's do not not affect deression on their own.

And there are no addiction issues with benzos unless you self medicate and suffer from occaisional withdrawals

Yeah true. If the anxiety and depression aren't connected, the Xanax probably won't help much.

Looking back at last year, it's a close one between which I hated having more, but I got to experience a severe version of both simultaneously. My heart goes out to those dealing with it for decades.

Second flight taking off now. No nonstop to LA from Halifax.

So you're saying there's no addiction issues, other than the addiction issues

I've been taking some sort of Benzo on and off for over 25 years. I assure you they are highly addictive. Also they are one of the worst withdrawal drugs if there is a ranking because Benzo withdrawal can cause sudden death. Why? Because one of the things benzos do is control your heart rate and blood pressure. Combine that with underlying anxiety issues and it's a recipe for disaster. Anybody coming off Benzo abuse should always do it under medical detox conditions.

I've had to be inpatient 3-4 times for this and they slowly wean you off the medication.

Of course not. I meant the addiction is not harmful physically. When taken as prescribed benzos are effective treatment so don't be afraid of them because they are addictive.

Weaning off benzos is not a problem if done correctly.

You don't need a detox environment for benzos. Valium has an incredibly long half life(days)
