Apparently, Kubrick was planning on making an epic Napoleon period piece around the time he made Barry Lyndon. It’s a shame that movie was never made, since it could’ve been his greatest work.

Rewatched all Kubrick over the last year or so, just can't get on board with this one.

Stance hasn't changed, although unwilling to spend 3+ hours to see if I feel differently.
Caught Full Metal Jacket in 35mm with Leon Vitali (Lord Bullingdon in your movie) speaking afterwards, was a treat. Also blessed to live in a city with a theater that owns an original negative of 2001 and plays it multiple times a year.
I slurp Kubrick like most but Barry Lyndon didn't do it for me.
