There were some minor injuries.

It was known as the Normandie Casino for a long time, but was considered inferior to the nearby Hustler Casino, also located in Gardena.

Larry Flynt, who owns Hustler, bought Normandie in 2016 and renamed it Lucky Lady.

The sale occurred because the original owners lost their gaming license due to allowing money laundering through the casino -- something which was common practice in California card rooms, and also saw stings at larger casinos such as The Bike.

The casino was built in 1940, called Western Club. In 1947, its name was changed to Normandie. In 1980, the location of the casino moved to its current spot, where a new building was erected.

Gardena as considered a very influential spot for poker, having six card rooms as of the 1960s, and no other city in LA County had card rooms until 1980. Gardena's card rooms are partially credited for the quick popularity of Texas Holdem, which was legalized in California in 1987.
