Victim of hacked Facebook: Any way back in?

In May, a female friend of mine sent me a message asking for a $100 loan "until Monday". I was actually willing to send her the $100, because she's very nice and trustworthy, but I suspected I might be talking to a scammer/hacker.

Indeed, I was. I engaged the scammer in a conversation, and amazingly they were able to present me with the girl's ID and health care card. (They got them from her e-mail, which they also hacked.)

When I told them I'd need to see a picture of her holding a sign with my name, they tried to lay a lol guilt trip on me saying things like, "Just admit you don't want to help me, and I'll go away."

When I finally told them that I knew they were a scammer, they blocked me.

I got a hold of this girl later, and she told me that it was a Nigerian scammer who hacked her e-mail (I'm guessing through phishing), and then proceeded to get into all of her accounts (including bank, Facebook, and others), and change all the info so she was locked out.

She was able to recover access to most of it. However she was still completely locked out of Facebook.

    Why?

Because the scammer changed the registered e-mail on her Facebook to theirs, and also changed the registered phone number.

She asked for my help, so I attempted to help her today.

I tried to go to https://www.facebook.com/hacked but it only works if the account is still registered to your e-mail, which it isn't anymore. Amazingly, there is no option I can find to simply revert the account to the e-mail prior to the change, nor can I find a way to contact Facebook to explain this.

She tried to call the only published number for Facebook, and it's just an lol automated message saying to handle things online.

Any idea how she can get out of this, or how to contact Facebook and explain this?

It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

Doesn't work because the account can't be found. Everything has been changed.

thats not necessarily true; there should be a UID that persists across those changes. but obviously its useless if you cant find anyone to provide it to as part of the recovery process.

i went through a similar thing on a throw-away account i set up ages ago.. for something like two years i was unable to log in regardless of what steps i went through because at the end of the chain, a window would pop up telling me my account had been 'locked' due to failed attempts to access etc etc. then one day, for no good reason, it worked. go figure.

but that was nothing like what youre dealing with. what i do remember is that at some point, they wanted me to send them a scan of my ID etc as part of the validation process. obviously not an option in this case but it was definitely on the table.

what im confused about... facebook sends an email to the original email account before any significant changes are pushed through. it should say 'you requested to change your email address to x@y.z, click below if you didnt initiate this change'.

id ask her to look for an email like that, for starters. if the bad actors had access to her email account and orchestrated their attack through that, then she's proper fucked, and if she cant find that email from fb, chances are you found their foothold and she has bigger fish to fry than recovering her fb, i expect.

Go to Mark Zuckerberg’s house with a gun. Demand he rectify the problem. If he fails to comply, shoot him in the face. You would be doing humanity a great favor.

    What's worse?

    A. Sending 2500 to a Nigerian thinking you're getting millions back?

    B. Or sending account info and losing access to all your online stuff? (bank, email accounts, just everything)

At what dollar amount is A worse than B? Would have to be into the 5 figures for me.

Does the Nigerian have a neck tattoo?

The only upside for her is that Facebook has frozen the account because they figured out it was scamming people.

So it can't continue scamming, but it's amazing that Facebook's security procedures are so awful that there's no way to revert the e-mail/phone to the old settings, or at least have the situation manually reviewed by a human being.

She told me she couldn't figure out a way to do it, and I was sure there was a way, so I volunteered to help.

Looks like there probably is no way.

This is quite a coincidence. Only recently have I learned that I have several hundred million dollars floating around in the Nigerian banking system. A very nice man named William Jones, although he does speak terrible English is my liaison in this matter. He is getting my money for the ridiculously rock bottom sum of $7900. I cannot believe my luck. What a great time it is to be a Communist

I dont mean to hijack, but I would just love to know how I can make a second fb account that is COMPLETELY independent of my original(as easily as possible)- meaning FB system doesnt automatically realize that I am the one making it and start suggesting related friends and shit from Account A and ESPECIALLY doesn't give my FB friends of Account A friend suggestions etc of Account B. I hope this didn't sount confusing.

I think ive tried everything short of a vpn including completely new email address on a fresh device. Shit is mega creepy and ridiculous.

I haven't logged on to my original fb since mid last year and was probably the best decision ive made for my own health and well being - i feel alot better without that bullshit. I just want a new fresh fb account to mainly sell household stuff etc in the local groups. The reason I want a new independent one is primarily because of my nosy and judgemental family members, friends and relatives. I think that is probably about my best option other than shitty craigslist.

It's a pain in the ass.

You need to start it from a different IP than you've used at any time in the past.

You also need to NOT log into it from any IP you've used in the recent past.

You also need to clear your browser of cookies before you register it.

You should also do it on a computer, and NOT a mobile device.
