Good (but long) essay about the current state of poker, and how to fix it

A few months ago, a Twitter account named @Rachelees69 popped up.

It purports to be an over-50 female with more than 30 years of success in the business world.

I was uanble to verify "Rachel's" identity, and "she" admitted that the name is phony. However, she also claimed to legitimately be female, and that her backstory is true. Obviously there's no way to verify any of this.

She just announced that she will be leaving Twitter soon.

She's also a big fan of PFA Radio, and listens regularly.

She wrote a very good essay about poker's past, present, and future. I don't agree with all of it, but I think it's very well put together, and she hits on a lot of good points.

Bodog, bovada and Acr are pretty healthy sites with lots of traffic. Bovada has horrendous software but did the right thing in going anonymous. Acr a very distant option due to flagrant botting. Sites need mega rakers to be profitable so another key is to lower the stakes otherwise the pond will be decimated. Poker sites like Global where fantastic because of Paypal the global poker has significantly gone downward with traffic and got rid of all 10 20 plo and high stakes nl because it claimed rightly that pros were decimating its economy. Need to have non scrip seating and no huds to make the game fun for recs. Its no fun sitting at a single or few table as a rec does and have to wait full timer every decision because of the players playing many many multi tables.

The description of the California poker scene in the 90s is spot on (with the exception of Commerce, which was always like the 2000s description for the most part). For example, the only no limit game regularly spread in So Cal was the Wednesday and Saturday night game at the Player’s Club in Ventura, which closed at 2 am. I think they may have spread one at Lucky Chances in No Cal as well. Most people got their experience in (fairly short stacked) tournaments, not the best training ground for deep stack cash games.

Cardrooms hated no limit. The players lost their money too quickly, causing the games to break earlier, causing a loss in revenue. They only relented because the players absolutely demanded it.
