Fake Mark Zuckerberg video shows new power of AI to create phony videos of people

You'll notice that the voice is fake (and doesn't sound at all like Zuck), but this was just a demonstration, and not an attempt to actually trick people.

The video was created by AI, changing his mouth movements to fit the new statement. An actor (not a very good one) supplied the voice.

Imagine if a talented voice impressionist (or one who naturally sounds like Zuck) did the voice instead. You'd totally buy it, right?

There is now some concern that this will become the new generation of fake news.

On the less sinister side of things, there is some effort being made to develop fake videos of dead people, using their social media presences to grab their voice and their commonly used phrases and interests. The goal is to create a new video (or several videos) of these dead people, for sale to loved ones who would like to "talk" to them or "hear" from them again in the present. This was actually depicted in the '80s in the show "Max Headroom", though the videos were shown to be incredibly primitive and simply saying the same thing over and over.

Where is all this going ?

an absolute wealth of bespoken pornography.

also anything not originating from a validated/trusted source on the internet will be regarded as FUD/entertainment. eventually this will likely lead to requiring some sort of license to post content on the internet in the form of something like a gpg key that gets shoehorned into the OSI model someplace above the application layer and below transport. by then there will be many internets to choose from, of course, and many of them will be unregulated but largely transient and absolutely swarming with toxic nonsense.

Ok, so if you don’t mind sharing, where should I be investing to be ahead of whatever is coming by way of computers, AI, and the like ?

TIA. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

With all of this unreal technology emerging, im just sitting here wondering why in 2019 how someone can go through all of the effort of making some of these deepfakes, but somehow can't bother to properly synchronize the audio with the video.

Maybe that tech is several years off yet, what do I know.

GPU manufacturers are at the top of my list but the whole cryptomining influence is still making it a super unstable market.

another potential growth area would be cloud-model GPU-on-demand solutions.

I always had the suspicion that much of the Facebook user count and content was an algorithm.

There is no way 2.5b people are that stupid. I always felt 1b idiots was the right number

That line is not off the rack. Fucking amazing.

If you consider what bespoke once meant and it’s current usage that line can imply almost 12 different things and all of them are fascinating.

I miss you dude. You disappeared down the rabbit hole of Trump - a place I don’t frequent.

You’re not lol wow but you soldier on

    Always a fan

The audio was poorly done. I agree it's a little out of sync, and the voice sounds nothing like him. In fact, the person isn't even trying to do an imitation of Zuck.

This would have been far more powerful if they got a good voice actor for the part.
