I know we've talked about this before, but VICE really fucked up big time.
I don't know what they were doing. They went from edgy and interesting to lame and shocking-for-the-sake-of-being-shocking.
It's like someone made the decision to extract everything that was good and unique about it.
Kind of reminds me of the Miami Vice movie.
"Let's figure out what everyone loved about the series, and make sure NOT to do that in the movie."
I don't really remember the movie, but my top 5 things from Miami Vice were...
folded jacket sleeves, Tubbs's sawed off shotgun, American Me taking shots at Mexican Mafia, Don Johnson writing the pilot for Nash Bridges with HST and all things cocaine
...it made Florida seem like a cool place to live when i was a kid.
the more i learn about early 80s miami coke culture, the deeper my appreciation and affection for miami vice grows.
but yeah fuck a vice news.
how about these apples; yeah the content largely sucked but even when it didnt, it was very rarely presented artfully.

I know I've mentioned this before too, but yeah, I loved some of their content 10...12 or more years ago. I realize your not always going to be able to find interesting and hard hitting stories (like the NK content, Iran, etc)...
...but now the shit is so lame, this short video sums up current Vice News the best imo:
When Ukraine was invaded they had the greatest coverage. Guy's name was Simon something. He was like all over the battle lines and so forth. Even captured at one point. I checked every day to see if a new episode had been posted. It was like watching an invasion of the West (far eastern edge) in real time by a jewish intellectual type walking around with a cameraman who both really had some balls.
I heard that their employees were (still are?) paid absolute jack shit from Shane and Co. Supposedly the shit pay was because they had the pleasure of working for Vice News and it gave them "great noteriety and pleasure (or whatever) to be able to work for Vice" LOLOL.
I havent followed up on this when I heard about it a number of years back, but someone please tell me that shit changed and they were compensated accordingly.
Personally, if I owned ANY company, I wouldnt even DREAM of being such a self-centered monumental douchebag that I would pay my employees peanuts because they " should be happy to work here".
When it comes to business, I can say alot of negative things about myself over the years. But, one thing I truly always focused on above all else was making sure (whether the project was in the black or not) that the people who worked for me and poured their blood, sweat, and tears into the job to get it done, were compensated FULLY, before i ever paid myself.
I couldnt/cant even imagine paying someone shit money who works for me.
I hope shit changed at Vice but either way, Shane and co should be ashamed.
I really didn't care for the daily "Vice News Tonight" show.
It was crap.
But "Vice on HBO" the weekly show that they cancelled last year wasn't too bad. Many of those episodes were interesting.

Axios picking up all the slack. Jared last week and Bannon yesterday.
Socialism is the transitional period of capitalism being taken over by Communism.

I remember like 10+ years ago when they started doing two 15 minute clips and made it into a HBO show. It was really really good.
Then after the third season Vice sold out and then the owner was down in Antarctica for a hour long special brow beating everyone. It just wasn’t the formula that got them where they were.
