Except it isn't a middle ground at all. And it's cowardly.

YouTube has to protect its relationships with its advertising clients, and Crowder has become a bit socially toxic given the current social conventions. As such, it is financially prudent “cowardly”ness.

If Crowder were just some conservative dude ranting in videos for his own amusement, this would be a reasonable solution.

However, Crowder has an expensive operation with 20+ employees, which makes much of its money from YouTube advertising. Thus, completely demonetizing the channel is almost as bad as completely censoring the channel. This sort of thing will completely choke out any kind of higher-budget conservative YouTube programs.

Tough noogies. Team Crowder violates its contract terms with YouTube. It doesn’t matter how many people that hate factory employs in creating its social pollution. It’s like a shopping mall discovering that one its leasee’s was selling some products that were banned by the the shopping mail’s policies.

Furthermore, it makes no sense. Why not just demonetize individual videos which don't meet standards? Why turn it off for the whole channel?

Because YouTube’s demonetization doesn’t preclude Crowder from getting other advertising sponsors. It just means that the ads won’t be arranged through Google Adsense and automatically attached to or inserted into the video stream by YouTube.

Instead, Team Crowder can contract with ad agencies for clients and insert them into the videos themselves, or contract for them to be inserted by a third party before uploading them. Other YouTubers hit hard by the interactions of YouTube’s Adpocalypse have started doing this to recover some ad revenue stream. Team Crowder should feel fortunate that they still have that option versus being completely banned by YouTube.
