Druff, Feel free to use either of the two designs for a PFA Call-to-Listen hoodie I posted in the trouble-with-Call-to-Listen thread to make new merch for sale.

    https://pokerfraudalert.com/forum/sh...l=1#post830548

Personally, I prefer the one with the phone numbers given the free marketing by a wearer of the hoodie of how someone could call the line and become hooked on the audio awesomeness that is in the arCHive.

    Druff,

Do you know how ridiculous you sound making the claim that the Obama Administration kept the FBI from investigating the alleged bribing of Harry Reid by Full Tilt Poker based on the claim made by a now-known career scammer, Jeremy Johnson? Because apparently Team Obama was also able to get the Republican-controlled Utah Attorney General office, as well as the Utah Department of Public Safety, to effectively dismiss the merit of such a claim?

    https://archive.sltrib.com/article.p...72&itype=CMSID

Do you really think that Team Obama was so powerful that it could get the deeply conservative Republicans who dominate Utah politics to go along with ignoring such a claim if there was even a hint of legitimacy to it? Especially when Mitch McConnell and his GOP cohorts had from Day 1 of Obama winning the 2008 election worked to kneecap his presidency at any cost to actual policy implementation? And being able to damage the Dem’s leader in the Senate on a bribery scandal would made defeating the “corrupt Democrats” in subsequent elections for a few cycles a walk in the park?

Seriously, man. Give up on that schtick. You’re embarrassing yourself.

The article you linked actually supports my claim. Did you not read it all?

There's tons of evidence there that a bribe took place, and lots of statements regarding the FBI not cooperating at the time of investigation.

Are you going by this one laughable paragraph:

The FBI declined to answer specific questions but in a joint statement with the Utah Department of Public Safety, FBI spokeswoman Sandra Yi Barker said, "At no time has the FBI or DPS been asked to back off of an investigation of any public official."
Come on, Mumbles. Notice the wording. "At no time has the FBI or Department of Public Safety been asked to back off an investigation of any public official."

Notice been asked. That doesn't mean they're cooperating or investigating. They're just saying that nobody ASKED them to back off.

As to why Sean Reyes (current Utah AG) doesn't want to investigate it, I don't know. There's all kinds of reasons this could be, including possibly wanting to protect friends or colleagues who would also go down if the truth were to come out.

But if you read the article and come away with the impression that Reid didn't receive the bribe, I don't know what to tell you.

Johnson, who wasn't political except when it helped him scam people, made these allegations without any personal gain from doing so, there's a paper trail to back it up, and Reid did indeed abruptly change his stance on online poker right around that time.

Druff, there is another reason why this allegation is ridiculous: Anyone with half a brain about how passing legislation in the US works would know that it is patently stupid to try to get a law passed that would buck the status quo on an emotional issue (“Online poker is gambling and will hurt our children!!!”) by giving a single large bribe to a single member of Congress even if he happens to be the majority leader in the Senate. While Full Tilt management may have stupidly trusted scammy payment processers — because they pretty much had to given the limited supply of them — they surely weren’t stupid enough to dump $1 million on such a plan.

Full Tilt and Pokerstars both got collectively scammed out of $100 million by a payment processor around that time.

So, yes, a $1 million bribe to get the Senate majority leader would make sense.

Also, online poker isn't a big issue, and most people in the general public don't care about it. They were attempting to only legalize online poker at the time, not online casinos or online sportsbetting.

If a guy like Reid threw his support behind it (at the time), that definitely increased its chances of going somewhere. Obviously nothing is a guarantee. But Reid definitely did do an about-face on the issue, which no one at the time understood.

Reid had the reputation of being corrupt and taking bribes long before this incident.

It would only make sense to make that kind of bribe if a bill the briber did NOT want passed was already passed in the House, likely to be signed by the president if passed by Congress, was likely to pass in the Senate if put up for a vote, and the briber wanted the Senate Majority leader to *prevent* the bill from being voted on in the Senate. That would potentially be worth a $1 million bribe to the leader of the Senate assuming the stakes to briber were high enough.

But without getting enough of the rest of Congress, and the President, to go along with the deal, such a $1 million bribe would be an utter waste of money. And to argue otherwise is patently asinine. And you are too smart to rationally make such an argument.
