Ben Zobrist takes indefinite leave from Cubs for... divorce?!

    Weird story.

Zobrist filed for separation, stating, that his “has been guilty of inappropriate marital conduct, which rendered further cohabitation impossible".

His wife filed for divorce the next day.

Zobrist left the Cubs on May 8 and hasn't returned. There is no timetable for when he'll be back.

I've never seen an MLB player go on leave related to a divorce, despite the many marital problems and divorces they end up having.

I do wonder if she was the one cheating on him, given his filing stating "inappropriate marital conduct", and his apparent devastation over the whole thing. If he were the one cheating and caught, you'd think he wouldn't have panicked so much, knowing it was his own doing.

I realize that, in a large percentage of divorce cases involving professional athletes, it's the man cheating with groupies while on the road.

He's obnoxiously Christian if I recall.

Always esp sweet to see pious assholes fall.

I'm also a casual Cubs fan - this is inexcusable to miss work over, esp when you have tens of millions and can just have lawyers handle it all. Should be fined daily.

It could be the wife, but my first thought was is the guy religious? Those dudes, when they fuckup, do the whole spiritual renewal thing with pastors and shit like that. As opposed to the rest of us who just got spoonfed a whole lot of Dr Phil books..

sounds somewhat like what Willie Davis did while with the dodgers back during the 60's...

his wife sued him for divorce and wanted huge alimony...Davis left the dodgers mid-season for several days saying, "if she wants that much money, let her play for the Dodgers"

eventually he came back, don't know how much the ex got
